We need more than one and more than two political parties

By
How many parties does the US need? Right now we play a game of bad cop good cop. McCain is a right-wing kook with a head filled with marbles and Sarah Palin is a pathetic joke.
Barack Obama is an improvement, but some issues are not on the table. The war in Afghanistan is one of them. Recently, Ralph Nader found more reasons to oppose the two party system, a system that severely limits our choices as to who are leaders are;

“Nader rails against two-party system at Ames stop”
By: Gavin Aronsen,
Special to The Tribune10/11/2008
Independent presidential candidate Ralph Nader visited Ames Friday, railing against America's two-party political system and urging college students to turn off their iPods and develop a social conscience…… "We've let our country be hijacked by political gangsters in Washington who've sold our government to fewer and fewer giant corporations (that) have no allegiance to this country," Nader said……He listed policies he supported that both major party candidates would not, including universal health insurance and amnesty for nonviolent drug offenders, and said voters who supported either without holding them accountable would be ignored."Once you vote for the least worst, you lose your bargaining powers," he said, adding that what people chose to do in the voting booth was their decision alone.”
For the whole article click here. This same argument goes on in the left. Do we fight for a one party state, or take our chances with multi-parties. I don’t think any system can survive long with just one political party. Here again are some

arguments pro and con:

In this statement they salute the “historical victory at the election in Nepal”, talking about leftist forces guided by the CPN(m).Firstly, this electoral victory is founded on people’s war, and it is a victory of the CPN(m) against the other so called leftist forces within a fight that has been also electoral. Not by chance just the people’s war the CPN(Maoist) guided is nearly removed by the Joint Coordinating Group. On the contrary, it refers to the successes of 19 days people’s uprising in April 2006 (Jaanandolan 2). Within this conference there are many parties who always dissociate themselves or are openly against people’s war. Therefore, they talk about agreements among many marxist-leninist, revolutionary and progressive parties, referring to some forces expressions of comprador bourgeoisie, as UML. This confuses the necessary front for finishing the monarchy with a revolutionary and progressive front.Actually, many Marxist Leninist forces are jumping on the bandwagon in order to erase the necessary demarcation between revisionism and Marxism – Leninism - Maoism, and to become supporters of the electoral way. It is obvious that the Nepali comrades appreciate every declaration of support coming from everywhere and done by every anti-imperialist, democratic and progressive forces, and not only them, within the political fight and the war presently developing in Nepal through political means, but this cannot sow confusion and illusions in the international communist movement. The statement does exactly this.COMMUNIST PROLETARIANSWe thank the COMMUNIST PROLETARIANS (CP) for their criticism. It serves for developing the open and frank debate, within and outside of the International Conference of Marxist Leninist Parties and Organizations (ICMLPO).The criticism states that the declaration does not say that “the electoral victory is founded on people’s war”. The CARC Party, current Main Coordinator of the Joint Coordinating Group (JCG), thinks that this is really a limit, and so it is useful to debate within the ICMLPO about the matter of people’s war, that is important and central for the International Communist Movement (ICM) today.Anyway, we firstly must say that what CP are stating is false. ICMLPO does not dissociate itself from people’s war, nor it is hostile to it. Its position is the following:“Without failing to appreciate the importance of people's war in particular countries, it was also stated that people's war does not constitute a universal law of Marxism-Leninism and Mao Zedong Thought. Universal is revolutionary violence against the reactionary violence and also to smash the bourgeois state machinery in order to conquer political power. The kind of revolutionary violence which is appropriate depends on the specific conditions of the country and the party.” (Resolution 2, 9th Conference)This statement opposes the amendment moved by the CARC Party, who, on the contrary, was stating that people’s war is a universal strategy, according to what enunciated by the (new) Italian Communist Party that, as far as we know, on the international level is the first who has defined universal and particular characters of such strategy for seizing power . The 9th Conference, as we told, not only rejected the amendment moved by the Italian organizations, but stated the contrary. Anyway, the CARC Party considered important that the matter was dealt with in an international debate. In fact, to state that the protracted revolutionary people’s war is universal is new for the ICM, and it is already important that we begin to speak about it.As far as we know, until a short time ago, only the (n)ICP and the CARC Party were stating that people’s war is a strategy for seizing power with universal and particular laws. Lately CP intervenes about the matter in a communication in English language on the mailing list mailing list MAOIST REVOLUTION: When MLM is applied on the concrete reality of the class struggle it is given new contributions and a further development. The application f the MLM made by the people's war in Peru has indeed given contributions, synthesized by the chairman Gonzalo and his thought, as well as contributions are coming from the people's war in Nepal, led by the "Prachanda path". Today the communist parties have the task to define, uphold and integrate these contributions in the ideological and political weaponry of the MLM theory. At the same time, it is well evident that the application of the MLM on the reality of the imperialist countries, an effort in which we have been engaged with the constitution of the PCm-Italy, will give other contributions to the MLM science. As regards the application on the concrete reality of our country of the contribution coming from the revolution in Peru and Nepal, we apply the method of Lenin, who said "critical application" , distinguishing the universal aspects, gen¬erally applicable, and the particular aspects valid in those countries. This is an important part of our work and of our ideological and political understanding. So, COMMUNIST PROLETARIANS generally agrees with the these exposed by the (n)ICP: Particularly, we are not able to understand which are the particular ways to apply the law we are talking about, because the document as we have received it bluntly finishes when they talk about the phases of the war. So we wait for 1. they to explain which these particular ways are, and 2. to become promoters of the thesis according to which the protracted people’s war has universal value and particular ways to be applied, with resolution, clarity and in all the political ambits they are referred to, in Italy and all around the world. As regards the other matter of the criticism moved by CP, we are sorry that talking about “leftist forces guide by the CPN(m)” creates confusion. As regards me, as representative of the Party coordinating the ICMLPO, I did not mean UML and Nepali Congress as forces that CPN(m) guided, but as forces which CPN(m) was com to terms with. Today, after the fall of the monarchy, I think that they are an obstacle to the advancement of the revolutionary process. Obviously, if there are divergences about the matter within the Conference, also this is a good opportunity for developing the debate. Anyway, contrarily to what CP says, I believe that it is important that this statement of the JCG of the ICMLPO recognizes that CPN(m) has had a guiding role in the advancement of the revolutionary process. This is a step on for the Conference and a unifying point for its participants. As for the rest, CP is wrong opening its document with the accuses of hypocrisy and opportunism. The statement has the simple and clear aim to support a revolutionary process that got important victories, but faces great challenges, and needs support on the international level. The statement is important because is the only one by an international aggregation of anti revisionist parties supporting Nepali revolution, the only one stating the historical value of its victories and, as we say above, exalts the guiding role of Maoists. So, it is an answer to the article published on Red Star n. 13, 18-31 August 2008 . The limits it has are opportunities to advance towards the common goals.. A common goal is the advancement of socialist revolution in the world. Particularly, as regards parties as (n)ICP and CARC Party, and the CP and the Maoist Party they are referred to in Italy, the Maoist parties and organizations in USA and Canada, parties as MLPD in Germany, the goal is the socialist revolution in an imperialist country, matter about which it is necessary to intervene with clarity, science and urgency. Another common goal is to coordinate the communist forces on the international level. In order to advance in getting these goals there need the open and frank debate, criticism and self criticism, and beyond the struggle against revisionism it needs to struggle against dogmatism, sectarianism and economism. The ongoing revolution in Nepal is important because obliges everybody to advance on these way, on national and international level. Everybody has to take a stand, and the stand they take (or not) is meaningful.Lastly, we inform COMMUNIST PROLETARIANS that, beyond this JCG declaration, nearly all and surely the most great parties and organizations of the ICMLPO on the quantitative and qualitative level, support Nepali revolution without reservations and sincerely. No one of them nor the ICMLPO need to jump in any bandwagon.I take the opportunity to inform all concerned people, and firstly the participants in the ICMLPO, that the CARC Party, the (n)ICP and people supposed to be members of it, and me too, are again object of the repression by the bourgeois State, which insists on it will to put us on trial because we are revolutionaries and multiplies the trials against us. Particularly, the General Attorney of Bologna wants to put us on trial with the charge of “wanting to realize Marxism Leninism with illegal methods”. So, also the fact that we are coordinators of a Conference that in an its declaration states that violence is an universal means for sizing power, as we write above, according to our persecutors is a crime. Berlusconi and his instigators, first among them the Vatican, think to solve all the problems of the crisis that is devastating the economy with the magistracy, the police and the army, so as he wants to do today with the impressive popular protests defending state education. In Italy the fact that the States wages war against the people’s masses, and then that a war is already existing, in forms precisely “particular”, becomes clear. We shall inform all concerned people, and firstly the participants in the ICMLPO, about the repression developing against us, in order to call for a greater and deeper International solidarity,Paolo BabiniRepresentative of CARC Party, current main coordinator of JCG of ICMLPO.

Agli interessatiIn data 20 ottobre 2008
When MLM is applied on the concrete reality of the class struggle it is given new contributions and a further development. The application of the MLM made by the people's war in Peru has indeed given contributions, synthesized by the chairman Gonzalo and his thought, as well as contributions are coming from the people's war in Nepal, led by the "Prachanda path". As regards the application on the concrete reality of our country of the contribution coming from the revolution in Peru and Nepal, we apply the method of Lenin, who said "critical application" , distinguishing the universal aspects, generally applicable, and the particular aspects valid in those countries. This is an important part of our work and of our ideological and political understanding.

Happy Halloween/Samhein

This is an eerie musical, because three of these band members have died and in this video they are burying themselves.
A little more than eight years after the band broke up, the band's three founding members—lead singer Joey Ramone, guitarist Johnny Ramone, and bassist Dee Dee Ramone—had died.
It’s creepy to see them burying themselves knowing that.

My new book: The Pol Pot Journals is out

In this novel, in the 1970s the turbulence of the Vietnam War and protests by students and youth who where un-willing to fight for a cause that seemed unsinkable and useless. When President Richard Nixon spread the Vietnam War to Kampuchea, (called Cambodia today) he not only caused outrage and protest at home, including the Kent State Ohio massacres, but he also threw Kampuchea into a state of civil war. His inept handling of the situation brought about one of the strangest social experiment of the 20th Century. Pol Pot ruled through a committee known for the first year only as the Ankar (organization). His name was not even spoken to the Kampuchean people for two years. His Communist Party of Kampuchea had amassed a powerful movement of disenfranchised peasants, who were loyal to him and his regime. The Residence of Phnom Penh, the city’s capital, were not so lucky. They were treated with suspicion. And punishment for those deemed “un-redeemable” was harsh.
This is a novel, and while Pol Pot wrote little this fictional novel lets us see the real man if he had written his own memoirs. The book also provides the views of both his comrades and those outside of Kampuchea,

This book is presently available at Lu Lu Publishing http://www.lulu.com/content/4661186.
It will be available at onther online stores in the coming days, at such outlets as Barns and Noble.

Fascist religious kooks fear loosing this election

This election could be a disaster for the Religious Right. People, such as James Dobson, of Focus On The Family who have arranged liberals for years and tried to enforce their Taliban mentality of “Christian morality” are sweating the idea that the power and pull they have had on the US Congress and having Republicans in the president for all but eight years for the last 30 years, is beginning to realize that the US might be a very different country for them when election day has come and gone. That’s not to say that most of us will feel huge differences in the economy or war culture, that so permeates our society. But for those who have been able to use government to promote their religion, it will mean a big loss.

Here we hear from Dobson himself:

Dr. Dobson's October Newsletter Can you feel the tension in the air? The nation — and indeed, the world — is holding its collective breath as the final days of the presidential campaign wind down and the candidates engage in one last round of electioneering and debating.

September 2008 Action Update What if the Left takes over? We’ve been examining that question around here for the past year, and with Election Day now just weeks away, the answer is as troubling as ever.

July 2008 Action Update You may have heard the recent news: Two huge victories for homosexual activistsóalong with a collection of smaller triumphsósent shockwaves through our nation.

Here is an example of their fears:

May 2007

Dear Friends:

I'm sure you have heard that on April 18, the U.S. Supreme Court struck down the legality of the procedure known as "partial-birth abortion."1 It was a stunning victory after a political struggle that has been going on since 1995. After the announcement, I aired a brief statement about the ruling on the "Focus on the Family" radio program. A transcript follows: The U.S. Supreme Court handed down an incredibly important ruling on Wednesday, April 18, upholding the ban on partial-birth abortion, which had been signed into law by President George W. Bush in 2003. We thank God for this victory that affirms the value of human life and puts an end to the Nazi-esque barbarism known as partial-birth abortion. A majority of justices have recognized what most Americans have long known: There is no constitutional right to slay a healthy, nearly-born baby by stabbing it in the back of the head and vacuuming out its brains, all without even anesthetizing the child. This ruling concludes a long legislative and judicial struggle outlawing this procedure. Legislation to ban it was first introduced in Congress in 1995. It was passed three times and twice vetoed by then-President Clinton. The third passage died in conference committee, facing a third inevitable Clinton veto. We applaud the Court for joining President Bush and Congress in declaring that a civilized society must not condone such compassionless and hideous acts against human beings. In the year 2000, the Supreme Court struck down a similar Nebraska law, as Sandra Day O'Connor voted with the majority in declaring that law unconstitutional. President Bush was reelected in 2004 and appointed Justice Samuel Alito to replace Justice O’Connor. The United States Senate, at that time more conservative than today, confirmed Justice Alito. He voted with the majority [in April] to uphold the partial-birth abortion ban.
This ruling reminds us that elections matter. President Bush's appointment of Samuel Alito provided the swing vote to protect this law. If John Kerry were president, partial-birth abortion would still be legal in the land. In fact, he voted against the ban six times as a senator. However, if Justice Alito were before the United States Senate for confirmation today, it's quite possible that he would not make it to the bench. With this ruling, the Supreme Court has taken the scalpel out of the hands of the abortionist, who would brutally puncture the skulls of babies who are inches and moments away from birth. Let me end with this deeply felt comment. One man, President Bill Clinton, preserved the legality of partial-birth abortion when it was struck down three times by Democrats and Republicans alike. As a result, this procedure, which is one part abortion and three parts infanticide, continued unchecked for 12 more years. Bill Clinton's legacy will forever be stained by the blood of precious babies who were subjected to unimaginable horror. By contrast, one man — President George W. Bush, the most pro-life president in United States history — has acted to protect children from the barbarity of partial-birth abortion. I applaud the president for nominating two pro-life justices to the Court and for having the courage and conviction to stand firm for human life.

These whackos have a serious fetes fetish problem!

PCP took Dynamite, nurseries and MEDICINES

The EPL

(Military wing of the Sendero Luminoso AKA Communist Party of Peru)

raids camp

While attention was focused on acts of corruption, a column of the PLA navy raided the camp of the proposed exploration Puca Toro located on the border between Cobriza and the District of Ayahuanco-Huanta, taking dynamite, medicine and food.

The incident took place last Monday at 03:45 am, when at least half a hundred heavily armed men surrounded the small camp located some 50 kilometers from the mine Doe Run in Cobriza.

The 30 workers were quartered in the camp gathered to hear five guerrileros for several minutes communist slogans and ideology, while others had the place surrounded.

The Maoists told villagers that they act against soldiers and police who violate human rights and who have raided the area Vizcatán. In addition they said that the strength of the order can not beat them because they are well prepared and claimed the ambush occurred Tintaya Puncu of October 9 last, noting that this was the response to the military operation and that these actions will continue.

After the talk, the guerrlleros, carrying a satellite telephone, separated the foremen to give them the telephone numbers of representatives of Doe Run.

At dawn, witnesses noticed the presence of some 50 men armed with AKM rifles, Galil and MAG.

The communist left the camp alive by giving the armed struggle and taking them medicines (antibiotics), food, dynamite and a Yaesu radio.

Elections in Nepal?

Is the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) on the right track? We can look at what happened in Nicaragua for a hint:
I remember when the Sandinista National Liberation Front, FSLN won a victory and I was glad they chose not to create a dictatorship as Fidel Castro had in Cuba. Eventually Daniel Ortega Emerged from a ruling directorate as the president of the country in a fair and impartial elections. Several right wing parties took part in the election and government. Then, after being attacked constantly by The Ronald Reagan Regime here in the USA, Ortega lost. He served from 1985 to 1990. How much the FSLN, under his control, actually changed Nicaragua for the better is hard to say. But he just returned to power in an election 2006.
16 years is a long time to be out of power, but the military was build by the FSLN, so that prevented a right-wing military coup from destroying them.

Today according to Wicipedia:
"In his first week as President of Nicaragua, Ortega met with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. The two heads of state toured shantytowns in Managua. Ortega told the press that the "revolutions of Iran and Nicaragua are almost twin revolutions...since both revolutions are about justice, liberty, self-determination, and the struggle against imperialism."
On 6 March 2008, following the 2008 Andean diplomatic crisis, Ortega announced that Nicaragua was breaking diplomatic ties with Colombia "in solidarity with the Ecuadoran people".[21] Ortega also stated, "We are not breaking relations with the Colombian people. We are breaking relations with the terrorist policy practiced by Alvaro Uribe's government".[22] The relations were restored with the resolution at a Rio Group summit held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, on 7 March 2008. At the summit Colombia's Álvaro Uribe, Ecuador's Rafael Correa, Venezuela's Hugo Chávez and Ortega publicly shook hands in a show of good will. The handshakes, broadcast live throughout Latin America, appeared to be a signal that a week of military buildups and diplomatic repercussions was over. After the handshakes, Ortega said he would re-establish diplomatic ties with Colombia.[23][24]
On May 25, 2008, Ortega, upon learning of the death of FARC guerrilla leader Manuel Marulanda in Colombia, expressed condolences to the family of Marulanda and solidarity with the FARC and called Marulanda an extraordinary fighter who battled against profound inequalities in Colombia."

So will things be better in Nepal. Every sitution and every revolution are different. I doubt if Comrade Prachanda is just another Ortega. I believe he is aware of the pitfalls that came in Nicaragua and I don't think he will just fall for that. I believe he has thought this out and deserves our support. He may run into the same problem eventually, but he also may usher in a new era where Maoist Parties can afford to Campaign in elections. After all, here in the US, we already have a two-party system that is as close to a one party system as we can have, without being a one party state. Do we really want just one political party, even if it's a great one?
And yet, already, a faction within the CPN(M) is arguing whether to accept pluralism or aim for a united party – or a one party state:

From HOME PAGE OF:http://www.groups.yahoo.com/group/MAOIST_REVOLUTION

Here are two views of the Nepal Revolution:

"DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OR PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC?
Harry Powell
21/10/08
The Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) is engaged in a sharp two line struggle over the way forward for the Nepalese people. On one side are those, such as Comrade Kiran, who want to proceed rapidly to the establishment of a new democratic type of regime. On the other side are those such as Comrade Prachanda, Party Chairman and Prime Minister, who seem to be envisaging a fairly long period of bourgeois parliamentary democracy which could eventually lead to some sort of new democracy. Prachanda has been proposing that some of the other communist groupings, who opposed the People's War, merge with the CPN(M) to form a new Communist Party of Nepal. Some other leading comrades are vigorously opposed to such amalgamations. A Party Conference to debate these issues commences on 6th. November. We should be careful of trying to understand contemporary political developments in terms of making crude historical analogies with past conjunctures. But on this occasion it might be useful to make some comparisons with the situation in Russia in 1917.A prominent comrade said to me that while the Maoists have formed a government, they do not yet have state power. One major issue is the question of the integration of the Nepal (formerly Royal) Army with the People's Liberation Army. The Nepal Army commanders and the reactionary Nepali Congress party are opposing such a change. They say that PLA personnel could apply to join the Nepal Army. This is unacceptable to the CPN(M) who want full integration on a basis of equality. This particular issue highlights the fact that in Nepal today there is a situation of "dual power" rather like the one in Russia between February and October 1917. Then there was a bourgeois liberal government presiding over the old Tsarist state apparatus but at the same time the Soviets (councils of soldiers, workers and peasants) had arisen and exercised considerable popular power. In Nepal although as a result of the Constituent Assembly elections the CPN(M) have formed a minority government, the rest of the old reactionary state apparatus remains in place. The Nepal Army, the police and the civil administration remain unreconstructed. Counterposed to this is the continued existence of the PLA, the militant Young Communist League and strong Maoist-led trade unions. The key issue in Nepal is whether or not the old army and police can be neutralized or dismantled. Otherwise there is the danger of a military coup at some point.Another parallel with 1917 is that "Menshevik" and "Bolshevik" factions seem to emerging within the CPN(M). On the one hand are those who see the future of Nepal in terms of a fairly long period of capitalist development which could eventually lay the basis for socialist transformation. On the other hand are comrades who want capitalist economic development to be closely supervised by the state and to fairly quickly start implementing socialist developments.A positive feature of these controversies is that the Party's two-line struggle is out in the open. There is no attempt to impose "monolithic unity". Unity comes through struggle. "

And:

"KATHMANDU, Oct 18th - A 'dissent' paper, proposed by senior Maoist leader Mohan Baidya during the party's recently held Central Committee (CC) meeting, has revealed serious ideological differences between two factions in the CPN-Maoist. While Baidya roots for a "people's republic", party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal is for a "democratic republic."
Baidya's proposal carries some weight. The party CC couldn't defeat it. Neither did it endorse Chairman Dahal's paper, which remains committed to the current democratic republic for now. Dahal's proposal sees a people's republic as a long-term goal, with a "pro-people" constitution as a transition toward that end. In contrast, Baidya stresses that the party must opt for a people's republic with immediate effect.
Baidya's proposal, backed by senior leaders CP Gajurel, Ram Bahadur Thapa and Matrika Yadav among others, advocates state-controlled political and economic systems and says that the state must have strong control over all economic resources. A party CC leader says the state cannot provide justice to all marginalised classes like farmers, labourers, the dalit and the janajati until it has full control over all economic resources.
Further elaborating on the Baidya proposal, the CC leader said the proposal argues that all economic activities, such as industries, must function under direct regulation by the state. "This is how the state can be socialist and dispense justice to all sections of society," he said.
Stressing that the party fought the decade-long war for a people's republic, Baidya argues that the party cannot undervalue the loss of hundreds of party cadres for the cause.
On the political front, Baidya's proposal states that there will be a multi-party democracy but it will not be a parliamentary one. The proposal says various political parties will be free to compete among themselves but they will function only within the norms and guidelines set by the state.
"The underlying meaning of the proposal is that there will be a single major political party in the centre and all other political parties will compete under norms set by the major political party," the CC leader said. "But we are still open to discussing the structure of the political system."
He said the high number of political parties in developing countries poses a hurdle in the development process. "If there is only one major political party in a developing country like ours, we will be free from horse-trading and all other types of political malaise."
Members of all the party's 11 state committees are currently studying both proposals. Some 800 members of the committees are expected to choose either one of the proposals during the party national cadres' conference, scheduled for the second week of November.
"I am sure the cadres will choose Baidya's proposal as it reflects the true aspiration of our decade-long struggle," the CC leader said.
Although he declined to say exactly how many members in the party's 35-member central committee are in favour of the Baidya proposal, he said the party leadership cannot just brush it off, considering its long-term implication for a party with a revolutionary history.
"We hope the party leadership will incorporate the dissenting proposal before presenting a final political paper during the national cadres' conference," he said. "If it fails to do so, major change in the party organisation including its leadership cannot be avoided as a majority of party cadres do not want to give up their long-cherished dream of a people's republic."
The Baidya faction, also known as the hard-line faction, has opposed Chairman Dahal's recent remark that the party is not in favour of a people's republic, and Dahal is desperately trying to consolidate his base, party insiders say.
Dahal's nervousness can be judged by his frantic efforts to unify his party with the CPN-Unity Centre (Masal). General Secretary of Unity Centre (Masal) Narayan Kaji Shrestha, who played a key role in the past in forging an alliance between the seven political parties and the Maoist, is known to be close to Dahal. Party insiders say Shrestha has set the condition that after unification the Maoist leadership must be ready to remove all adjectives from the name of the party and rename it the Communist Party of Nepal.
Maoist Chairman Dahal and another powerful party leader, Dr Baburam Bhattarai, have agreed to Shrestha's demand. But Baidya, sensing Dahal's intentions, is strongly opposed to it, according to this story."

Another RepubliKKKan gets caught spewing hate speech

This week Republican Robin Hayes of North Carolina fired up a raucous crowd in North Carolina with the following:

“Liberals hate real Americans that work, and achieve and believe in God."
And after he said it, he lied and denied he ever said it! Problem is, he was caught on tape.

Minn. Rep Michele Bachmann Backtracks after Hardball
ST. PAUL, Minn. – Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann says she regrets using the term "anti-American" while discussing Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's views, a remark that could threaten her re-election bid.
Bachmann told the St. Cloud Times on Tuesday that she "made a big mistake" by going on MSNBC's "Hardball," a show she said she'd never seen before her appearance last week. Her statement to host Chris Matthews that Obama "may have anti-American views" drew condemnation and helped her opponent, Democrat Elwyn Tinklenberg, raise more than $1 million in just a few days.
During an interview with the Times' editorial board, Bachmann said she walked into a trap and did not bring up the term "anti-American." Still, she said, "I should not have used that phrase."

More battles in India

A lot has been going on in India. Activity has been very high. The following is another account of a battle:

RAIPUR, OCTOBER 20th :
Striking in a big way after the announcement of two-phase Assembly elections in Chhattisgarh next month, Maoist rebels ambushed a team of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel this afternoon, killing 12 and leaving six others wounded near a forest village between Modupal and Kompalli in Bijapur district.
The Maoists first triggered an explosion and then opened fire on the injured CRPF personnel. They escaped with weapons of the securitymen, including an Ak-47 assault rifle, two SLRs, a light machine gun and INSAS rifles, police said. Security forces have been rushed to the area to flush out the Maoists.
Bijapur SP Ankit Garg said the incident took place around 1.30 pm when CRPF men were patrolling the area, moving towards the Modupal base camp. They were attacked by large number of Maoists who first set off an explosion and then opened fire.
Police sources said three security personnel were killed in the blast while nine others were killed in the firing that followed. A Maoist was killed when the CRPF personnel returned fire. All the injured were taken to the district hospital in Bijapur from where they were being airlifted by helicopter to the Government medical college hospital in Raipur.

India: Maoists proclaim own government in tribal belt

May 30: Taking control of the entire tribal belt stretching from Abujhmar, Bastar and Dandakaranya, the Maoists in Chhattisgarh have announced the formation and functioning of their first-ever parallel "revolutionary government". This "government" has also announced the formation of "ministries" of agriculture, finance, judiciary, health, school and culture and forests. The Chhattisgarh government appears to have completely lost control of this remote tribal-dominated region, over which soldiers belonging to the dreaded Peoples Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) hold sway. While the Maoist health ministry is creating awareness on family planning and hygiene, the education ministry has come up with its own version of "revolutionary history." Attacks on the government-sponsore d "Salwa Judum" movement is a part of the "red" syllabus. A top central committee member, Comrade Sonu, told this newspaper: "We have rejected imperialist history and are teaching tribals about the revolution and of great heroes from their tribes." The outfit plans to set up similar revolutionary governments in other Maoist-infested states like Jharkhand and Orissa. Though there is no "foreign ministry" as such, the highest policymaking body, the central committee, maintains links with the coordination committee of Maoist parties and organisations of South Asia. In a telephonic conversation from Raipur, Chhattisgarh director-general of police, Mr Vishwa Ranjan, said, however, that the state police had been successful in "smashing" the Maoist bases and that the Naxalites were on the run. He claimed that the "so-called parallel government" had been made "defunct" by the police onslaught. He said that apart from forming a special task force, the state police was also coordinating with the Greyhound force of the Andhra Pradesh police in its battle against Maoists.

The boogey woman on MSNBC

The right must be really desperate when they keep using scare tactics that most people will realize soon enough, (if they don’t already know) are completely bogus. Consider this video:

As I said before, in an earlier blog, Bill Ayers is currently a Distinguished Professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago. His is not wanted by the law and he is no longer a member of the Weather Underground.

He belong to the Weather Underground 40 years ago. The Weather Underground had collapsed by the end of the 1970s. All of this is a bunch of overblown crap!!!!

We need to know our Marxist roots

Religious people often refer back to their ancient profits, such as the Buddha or Mohammad or mortal deities, such as Jesus Christ or Siva for example. They can claim they have a long heritage and roots that go back for over a thousand years.
But we also have that.
There actually were atheists, such as Theodorus, (Θεόδωρος ),5th century BC the Atheist of Cyrene, of Ancient Greece. So it is not a relatively new idea.
So where are the ancient influences for dialectic materialism? It's easy to just say "I'm and atheist," but dialectic materialism is a belief that replaces religion. As for ancient Greek materialist, Democritus(Δημόκριτος), Also the 5th century BC, was an influence and was admired by Karl Marx, who wrote a thesis about him। And Just as Marx had Frederick Engels to help him write, Democritus had Leucippus (Λεύκιππος), to collaborate on his work. They also live in the ancient world of Greece.Marx was influenced by Giordano Bruno, A monk burned at the stake in 1600, the official charge was supporting Capurnicus and his conception of the world. Mao was heavily influenced by Sun Tzu, for military strategy. Moa developed his own guerrilla war fare strategy and, Sun Tzu,( 孙子;) from Ancient China, 6th century BC, was definitely a huge influence. And Maoists promote the use people's war to gain real political power.
Lao Tzu (老子), also 6th century BC was quoted several times by Mao in his later writings. Could he have been a Maoist influence from Ancient China?
And let's not forget Spartacus, 1st century BC, who led a major rebellion against the Roman Empire. Engels wrote a book on the Peasant War of Germany, in the 1500 AD. For Americans, Thomas Jefferson and Tom Paine were the hard core supporters of the Republican movement in Europe. They both supported the French Revolution. That would be an outdated stand today, but in a time when the aristocrats of Europe still held a lot of power, it was the Republicans that help replace feudalism with capitalism, which is a part of Marx’s believe that feudalism leads to capitalism, which leads to socialism and then communism. It was Antonio Gramsci, a late writer for the Italian Communist Part, who said we can’t judge everyone in the past by modern standards.
We also had one of the more influential slave revolts lead by Nat Turner, in 1831.
We need to occasionally look back to our ancient roots. That way, Marxist can claim a long heritage of philosophers and go toe to toe with any Christian or Moslem wacko, that tries to make it look like we are flukes from the 1800s.

"Plumber Joe" 's an idiot

Joe’s an idiot. Who says a janitor or a clerk is not working that hard even though their jobs include various hazards, dealing with nasty customers, who knows what a corporate executive or CPO’s did to get a $million raise. Did they really work that hard, compared to a carpenter or someone on the factory floor. If Joe wants to tax everyone the same, why don’t we all get the same salary. It’s only fair.
Otherwise, those who defend not taxing the rich (some of who inherit money rather than EARN it) are just fools for their corporate masters in Washington.
Also, don’t the news people have any real news to report on rather than making celebrity’s up over their names and occupations alone?

Bob works Cheap. That's because he dreams of being a millionare- someday- some how- because he lives in this magic country.

Another Debate

This time people might actually watch it, instead of looking for Gilligan’s Island reruns.

Would a banner change for RIM be so bad?

Having been a supporter of the Revolutionary International Movement (RIM) I’ve noticed that their mast head on the top of A World To Win has added to the three big names, (Karl) Marx-Lenin(Влади́мир Ильи́ч Ле́нин;)-Mao(毛泽东). Friedrich Engels and Joseph Stalin, (Иосиф Сталин or in Georgian ნამდვილი გვარი ჯუღაშვილი). Engles makes sense since he co-wrote a lot of Marx’s writings. But how much do we need a picture of Stalin? With all the talk of liberation for women, how many banners have any on them? We have Rosa Luxemburg, a major Eastern European Marxist leader, we don’t use her picture. But Jiang Qing, (江青), has been considered an important figure in the RIM history and is more in step with Maoism. She fits in perfectly as one of our great heroes. I’d rather see her than Stalin.

Maybe this is a little thing, but certain members of the RIM have been accused of being too critical of Comrade Stalin. Many on the more center-left hate the guy completely, but most RIM members would agree that he played an important role in history, even if he wasn’t a great hero. Many of us like Jiang. I personally think she’d make a more balanced
banner for being a woman Maoist leader. It might improve the RIM image.

Sendero Luminoso ambush report

I received this report today from:
http://www.groups.yahoo.com/group/MAOIST_REVOLUTION

Lima - An ambush by the Communist Party Of Peru (PCP) [Sendero Luminoso (Shining Path)] claimed the lives of 12 soldiers in Peru's central mountains, the Peruvian Armed Forces said Friday. The ambush happened Thursday in the Tayacaja province, in the Huancavelica region, some 445 kilometres east of Lima, as the soldiers were returning in four trucks along with some local civilians from an event in the town of Tintaypuncu.

The alleged members of the PCP detonated explosives as the vehicles passed by. A shootout followed that lasted several hours, the Armed Forces said in a statement.
A further 11 soldiers were injured, while several soldiers and some weapons remained missing and were in the hands of the masses.
Before the ambush, the Armed Forces had said five alleged Maoists and one soldier had died in clashes, which also left 18 fascist soldiers injured.
Since August, the Peruvian military has engaged in a broad 'anti- rebel operation' in the VRAE region, comprising the provinces of Junin, Ayacucho and Cusco, where there is also a strong presence of revolutionaries.
The PCP was very active in the 1980s, as it exercised great peoples struggle in its self-declared quest to set up peoples republic.

Yes Virginia, there really are Republican Troglodytes across the US

All the red is by 史蒂夫・奥多:
Both McCain and Sarah Palin have made inflammatory remarks that are ridiculous and misleading. The have brought out the most racist ignorant-livining-the-past voters imaginable. These people are just down right scary. But first, what did they do? After being found vindicated of wrongfully violating the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act, she them she goes after Bill Ayers, as if he were building bombs in his basement right now. He did oppose the government at a time when the electoral process was tampered with by Richard Nixon, and Henry Kissinger who never had to pay for their war crimes in South America or in Indochina.

On Bill Ayers Personal life:
Bill Ayers is married to Bernardine Dohrn, a fellow former leader of the Weather Underground. They have two adult children and shared legal guardianship of a third child. Ayers and Dohrn currently live in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago.[46]
Ayers is currently a Distinguished Professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago, College of Education. His interests include teaching for social justice, urban educational reform, narrative and interpretive research, children in trouble with the law, and related issues.[35]
He began his career in primary education while an undergraduate, teaching at the Children’s Community School (CCS), a project founded by a group of students and based on the Summerhill method of education. After leaving the underground, he earned an M.Ed from Bank Street College in Early Childhood Education (1984), an M.Ed from Teachers College, Columbia University in Early Childhood Education (1987) and an Ed.D from Teachers College, Columbia University in Curriculum and Instruction (1987).
He has edited and written many books and articles on education theory, policy and practice, and has appeared on many panels and symposia.

----If he’s a terrorist, why is he openly working at a University?
He was a member of the Weather Underground, which disbanded 20 years ago. They did plant bombs, at a time when our government was using the FBI's
COINTELPRO.[11][12] program to illegally spy on and disrupt organizations of all types. No one was prosecuted for that. So this is a ridiculous non-issue “You conservative Republican Dumb Asses!”

Weather Underground
Dissolution
Despite the change in their status the Weather Underground remained underground for a few more years. However, by 1976 the organization was disintegrating. The Weather Underground held a conference in Chicago called Hard Times. The idea was to create an umbrella organization for all radical groups. However, the event turned sour when Hispanic and Black groups accused the Weather Underground and the Prairie Fire Committee of limiting their roles in racial issues.[31] The conference enhanced a division within the Weather Underground. The Weather Underground faced accusations of abandonment of the revolution by reversing their original ideology.
East coast members favored a commitment to violence and challenged commitments of old leaders, Bernadine Dohrn, Bill Ayers and Jeff Jones. By the end of 1976, the Weather Underground would collapse.[40] Within two years, many members turned themselves in after taking advantage of President Gerald Ford’s amnesty for draft dodgers.[6]

----To truly understand the ignorance and stupidity of John McCain’s supporters, one only needs to read what his hate monger supporters are saying about the Barack Obama Campaign. The entire article can be read by clicking on the hyperlink below. Some of the comments are plain racist. Others are the ranting of a bunch of old has-beens who haven’t noticed this is not the 1940s or 1950s. They seem to think World War II and the Cold War are still going on. Their comments are an outright embarrassment to the US. These are America’s inbreed troglodytes:
McCain Rally
CNN) -- With recent polls showing Sen. Barack Obama's lead increasing nationwide and in several GOP-leaning states, some Republicans attending McCain-Palin campaign rallies are showing a new emotion: Rage.
"When you have an Obama, [House Speaker Nancy] Pelosi and the rest of the hooligans up there going to run this country, we have got to have our head examined. It's time that you two are representing us, and we are mad. So, go get them," one man told Sen. John McCain at a town hall meeting in Waukesha, Wisconsin.
Another man was more pointed.
"And we're all wondering why that Obama is where he's at, how he got here. I mean, everybody in this room is stunned that we're in this position," another man said at a rally.
"I'm mad. I'm really mad. And what's going to surprise you, it's not the economy. It's the socialists taking over our country," one said.

One woman complained that she thought Obama is a closet Moslem. It was so bad, even McCain had to try and calm them down, reminding them this is just a political campaign.

The Stock market keeps falling

From Yahoo News:

Dow plunges 679 to fall to lowest level in 5 years
Thursday October 9, 7:03 pm ET
By Tim Paradis, AP Business Writer

Dow plunges 679 points to trade below 9,000 for the first time in 5 years in afternoon sell-off

NEW YORK (AP) -- Stocks plunged Thursday, sending the Dow Jones industrial average down 679 points -- more than 7 percent -- to its lowest level in five years. Stocks took a nosedive after a major credit-rating agency said it might cut its rating on General Motors and Ford, further rattling investors already fretting over the impact of tight credit on the economy.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index also fell more than 7 percent.

The declines came on the one-year anniversary of the closing highs of the Dow and the S&P. The Dow has lost 5,585 points, or 39.4 percent, since closing at 14,164.53 on Oct. 9, 2007. It's the worst run for the Dow since the nearly two-year bear market that ended in December 1974 when the Dow lost 45 percent. The S&P 500, meanwhile, is off 655 points, or 41.9 percent, since recording its high of 1,565.15.

U.S. stock market paper losses totaled $872 billion Thursday and the value of shares over all has tumbled a stunning $8.33 trillion since last year's high. That's based on figures measured by the Dow Jones Wilshire 5000 Composite Index, which tracks 5,000 U.S.-based companies' stocks and represents almost all stocks traded in America. … For more click here.

The real problems are overlooked:

They inflated the housing market by “flipping” homes to the point that no one could live in them. Sooner or later some one has to live in the home or it has no value.

The changed banking and credit card laws to transfer all the power to the banks and credit companies, by not allowing citizens to bankrupt when they are obviously over their head in debt. The problem here is that even with the new laws, these companies are finding that they still can’t collect debts that are too high for the customer to pay.

The war, a commitment on two fronts to fund a massive war machine and take employees out of the private sector to try and control that last of “Peak oil.” The wars cost money. They drive up the debt.

Then there is just plain old greed. Our congress has given large corporations anything they want and ignored the workers, who have fewer jobs do to outsourcing..

The Armed Forces of the Philippines has been unable to wipe out the New People’s Army

I received the following news release:

Battle-weary AFP Troops Going Berserk in the Countryside (19 AFP Troops Dead, at least 20 Wounded in the Surigao del Sur-Davao Oriental Border Offensives)
Roel Agustin II
Conrado Heredia CommandSpokesman
Front 20 Operations CommandNew People's Army-Southern Mindanao October 05, 2008

In the last two weeks of September, the Brigade-size military operations by the composite 36th Infantry Battalion, Division Reconnaissance Company, 67th Infantry Battalion, Scout Rangers Company of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police's 1105th Provincial Mobile Force were hit head-on in the series of tactical offensives by the Red fighters under the Conrado Heredia Command of the Front 20 Operations Command of the New People's Army. Killed in these series of tactical offensives were 19 AFP troops; at least 20 were also wounded.
Yet, ironically, in the comforts of his air-conditioned Davao City Headquarters, Eastern Mindanao Command's Maj. Armand Rico of the AFP is getting paid handsomely to tell lies and issue public statements for a systematic cover-up. Maj. Rico and his higher-ups desperately want to project that the AFP soldiers deployed for the militarization in the Surigao del Sur and Davao Oriental border-mountains is not running berserk and not suffering from low morale due to their numerous battle losses. But in the battlefield, Maj. Rico's pronouncements rang hollow as the US-Arroyo regime's costly illusion to wipe out the New People's Army in less than 20 months from now is nakedly taking its ugly toll to its AFP commanders and foot soldiers.
Last September 22, Red fighters hit the fascist enemy twice in a back-to-back tactical offensive: one harassment operation against the 36th IB-AFP detachment in Cabunsuan in Linging town; and later, ambushed the AFP troop reinforcements. Two days later, at 3:15 pm, Red fighters again ambushed the fascist military troops in Bogak, also in Lingig in Surigao del Sur. By September 30, the Red fighters engaged the fascists military in Sumilao in Boston, Davao Oriental. One Red fighter who was wounded during the offensives was later pronounced dead in a local hospital. He was a martyr of the people.
Indeed, the superiority of the regime's firepower and war machine used to exploit and trample the fundamental rights of the people is inutile when faced with an army engaged in guerrilla warfare; who knows the mountains and who lived with the masses in the countryside.
The massive presence of mercenary AFP troops and its show of superior firepower aims to drive the people away from their farms and homes, maim those who actively resist the aggressive incursions of big foreign businesses, and to protect the regime's favored sources of blood money. In the Surigao del Sur-Davao Oriental borders, the AFP troops is protecting American-Australian -owned Omega Gold and the gold mining ambitions of Asia's largest paper mill, PICOP.
Maj. Rico is laughable as he desperately misleads the people as to the true account of the offensives. He cannot distinguish the banned land mine from a Command-Detonated Explosive used by the Red fighters during ambuscades, bloats casualty figures on the NPA side, and downplays their numerous casualty rate, and insists that the AFP troops over-ran an "NPA camp" -- all proof of his ignorance to guerrilla methods and warfare. In the end, the masses are not unintelligent, and the people know better.
In the meantime, let Maj. Rico along with the AFP higher echelons and the US-Arroyo regime continue to wallow in deep political isolation from the masses, suffer widespread discontent among the AFP foot soldiers and its mounting failure to stop the growing strength of the revolutionary movement.
