D-Day memories

The following is from my wife, Cam Gentry, concerning "the good war," which is World War II. That is the war that many leftists supported “Country Joe” in Moscow:

On D-Day in memory of my father:

“My father, Merle Allen Gentry, landed on Omaha Beach during the D-Day invasion. He was very young, 20, as so many were and one of only two survivors from his ship. He advanced through Europe, took part in the Battle of the Bulge and returned home amazingly physically uninjured. He spoke very seldom about the war, but he did tell me once, he hoped his grandchildren would remember his part in this war and be proud of his service. It would have pleased him to know that loved ones and strangers were remembering him on this day.”
