Indian Army intervenes in Nepal’s Civil War

Nepal’s Royal Army, with the help of the Indian Army, attacked members of the Maoist People’s Liberation Army in the western part of Nepal. According to the Revolutionary Worker the battle took place February 28. The government has been in trouble with the guerillas controlling 80% of the country-side. King Gyanendra declared an emergency on Feb. 1, banning all opposition, including freedom of speech, in both print and radio and all activities by political parties of any kind. Indian troops captured seven fighters and took them back to India. The Indian army has captured and imprisoned members of the PLA before, but the 毛-ist were found in India. This is the first time India has taken foreign prisoners from Nepal.
There has been some fear by many in Nepal that Indian would like to intervene and control Nepal as a neo-colony, so it’s hard to say if this will backfire or if India can actually take enough advantage of the situation to make Nepal a neo-colony as President George Bush has done to Iraq.
