A response to the response of the Republicans to Obama’s State of the Union Speech

The Republicans let Senator Marco Rubio, of Florida; make a response to President Barack Obama’s State of the UnionSpeech. So I took a few excerpts and added my own response to the Republicans. Actually, Obama and his Democratic allies are not that different from the Republicans, but the Republicans are harsh, mean spirited and just plain full of shit. Here are a few excerpts and my reactions.

Excerpts from Sen. Marco Rubio’s (R-FL) Republican Address to the Nation, as prepared for delivery:

1-“The State of the Union address is always a reminder of how unique America is. For much of human history, most people were trapped in stagnant societies, where a tiny minority always stayed on top, and no one else even had a chance.

But America is exceptional because we believe that every life, at every stage, is precious, and that everyone everywhere has a God-given right to go as far as their talents and hard work will take them.”

1-I don’t seem to be living in the same country as Rubio. The economy is stagnant, there are no GOOD jobs to be found where I live and a tiny minority seems to be reaping all the rewards of this country. With my leftist politics there is no “God-given right to go as far as their (my) talents and hard work will take them (me).”

2-“Presidents in both parties – from John F. Kennedy to Ronald Reagan – have known that our free enterprise economy is the source of our middle class prosperity.”

2-I haft to wonder how many countries have actually convinced the majority of their citizens that profiteers, marauders and robber barons are necessary for their prosperity. It is like a parasite that is slowly causing you to rot away and it convinces the host that it is actually a necessary part of the host’s body. The simple truth is that we can survive without rich parasites living off of us.

Parasites-The Republican Party says you need them.

3-“But President Obama? He believes it’s the cause of our problems. That the economic downturn happened because our government didn’t tax enough, spend enough and control enough.”

3-When did Obama ever suggest anything like the above statement. All he has passed in the last four years is “Obama-care.” If the Republicans want to continue making such statements let them give us examples of tax, spend and control being significantly expanded in the Obama years. The simple truth is they can’t. As with control, they don’t mean police or military. The Republicans love to control our private lives and the nations abroad. They just don’t want any regulations on their corporate masters.

4-“This idea – that our problems were caused by a government that was too small.”

4-Here is another ridiculous and meaningless catch phrase “small government.” What does that really mean? Again not a reduction in police, spies, the FBI, CIA or military. We spend much more on our military than any other country in the world. “Small government” is just a clever catch phrase for “let the corporations do what they want and don’t get in the way.”

5-“More government isn’t going to help you get ahead. It’s going to hold you back.”

5-This phrase is similar to the one above it. It has no meaning at all. We still get spied on by the FBI and other government agencies. The Republicans rely on that control to keep them in power. This is a police state, so the above statement is meaningless.

6-“We need to incentivize local school districts to offer more advanced placement courses and more vocational and career training."

6-In the history of this country, since national mandatory compulsory education began in year 1870.

Republicans had their way many people would not have access to anything but he most rudimentary education, focusing on their production on the factory floors. The Republicans could care less if any of our students understand the world or political system they live under. It’s just not necessary to them.

We need to give all parents, especially the parents of children with special needs, the opportunity to send their children to the school of their choice.”

7-“For example, Obamacare was supposed to help middle class Americans afford health insurance. But now, some people are losing the health insurance they were happy with. And because Obamacare created expensive requirements for companies with more than 50 employees, now many of these businesses aren’t hiring. Not only that; they’re being forced to lay people off and switch from full-time employees to part-time workers.”

7-Obamacare is about the only thing Obama got passed in four years of being president. It is the favorite wiping boy for the Republicans and they don’t let the truth get in the way of their arguments.

8-“But God also blessed America with abundant coal, oil and natural gas. Instead of wasting more taxpayer money on so-called “clean energy” companies like Solyndra, let’s open up more federal lands for safe and responsible exploration. And let’s reform our energy regulations so that they’re reasonable and based on common sense. If we can grow our energy industry, it will make us energy independent, it will create middle class jobs and it will help bring manufacturing back from places like China.”

8-The Republicans love to hide behind God and in this case they want us to believe that God doesn’t want us worrying about the pollution or ecological consequences of our actions. If any one believes the argument about China, please go there and see if you really want us to have that kind of pollution.

9-“On foreign policy, America continues to be indispensable to the goal of global liberty, prosperity and safeguarding human rights. The world is a better place when America is the strongest nation on earth. But we can’t remain powerful if we don’t have an economy that can afford it.”

9-Obama is running the kind of foreign policy that the Republicans believe in. Because of the massive spending on the military, there is no way the US can ever afford that kind of spending. Eventually it will sink this country. -សតិវ អតុ
