Attica State Prison riot 38 years ago

From the Kasama Project:

“38 years ago, prisoners at Attica State Prison initiated an uprising to protest brutal and racist prison conditions. After 5 days, Governor Nelson Rockefeller approved a military attack on the prison in with National Guardsmen, prison guards and local police indiscriminately shooting all the way through. In the end, 43 people were killed: including 29 inmates. John Lennon and Yoko Ono performed this song on the David Frost Show to expose this outrage to the wider public. Afterwards, they engaged audience members in debate.”

As usual, the right wing mean-spirited US bigots show what they are really made of. The US is a country firmly rooted in violence and the use of violence as a control mechanism for the policing of its citizens. - steve otto
