The League of Women Voters
urges you to come talk to your Kansas legislators
Southcentral Kansas
Legislative Town Hall
7 p.m.
Tuesday - January 3, 2012
Sedgwick County Jury Room
Arrive between 6:00 and 6:30- Seating is limited. Sign up to speak; it is on a first-come-serve-basis. Enter at the north entrance off Main and Elm.
EACH PERSON WILL HAVE ONLY 3 MINUTES TO SPEAK TO THE LEGISLATORS.
Use fact sheets and talking points if you can, know the arguments of the opponents and try to speak to those. Be specific about impacts. Personal impact stories are the best.
- Why don't voters know about the voting law changes and will they be able to get the documents needed for these changes?
- Will the legislators raise sales tax and put it on utilities in order to let the governor eliminate income taxes?
- Will local districts have to raise local property taxes in order to pay for schools while cutting state funds and services?
- Will the poor and at-risk children of large school districts get adequately educated with the new formula for schools?
Kansas Action for Children reminds us:The campaign that defines the issue first, wins.
Please forward this.
