Last night we were treated to another non-event—The Republican Primary. It was a hard choice for many because these people say exactly the same thing. They are Tea Party candidates who want to step up the war on poor people. They want to step up any war. They want the working poor to pay more taxes and lose all their safety nets while they give lavish tax cuts to the rich. There’s almost no difference between any of them, except for Ron Paul who wants to legalize all drugs. Legal drugs would be fun, but having no safety net for those who lose their jobs or no social security is not so good.
None of these people are fit to run a country. The only thing they might do is make things worse for all of us than they already are.
The mainstream press covers this the way they covered the Royal wedding (another yawner). The winners were Mitt Romney followed by Rick Santorum. They were elected in a caucus which means only a few registered Republicans got to actually vote. But we all now know that the Republicans don’t really want a lot of people voting. That’s one more way the cling to power in the electoral façade. -សតិវ អតុ
