When it comes to “pro-life” (anti-abortion) politicians, lying is the new policy. A new abortion bill exempts doctors from medical malpractice if they withhold medical information to prevent an abortion. It also protects doctors from malpractice claims for a woman who suffers an injury from a pregnancy as a result of information withheld from her to prevent an abortion, According toThe Wichita Eagle.
To further add to confusion the bill stops saving account funds from going to the purchase of abortion insurance coverage. How they can actually enforce this laws is a mystery. Yet it has the backing of our not so honest and wise Governor Sam Brownback.
The bill includes provisions that prevent abortion if a fetus can feel pain, which is still scientifically unproven. It also wants doctors to tell women about an unproven link between breast cancer and abortion.
This is obviously more attempts to stop abortion in Kansas. Today it is only practiced in Kansas City. However, this is one of the first times anti-abortion activist have advocated that doctors lie to their patients or risk getting suited Most of the anti-abortion groups are religious based activists. Most of the arguments are Biblical. So where in the Bible does it tell people there are good religious reasons to lie? This is hard to imagine even for them. Also the amount of government interference in the personal and economic lives (savings account restrictions) are completely at odd with the mantra we keep hearing from them that government can do no right, needs to stay out of our lives and is not the answer to society’s ills.
This bill is just plain immoral no matter which side of the abortion debate some one is on.
