In Missouri Senate candidate Todd Akin we see the outright
stupidity of this rubber stamp flunky that the Tea Party is putting up for the
electorate. These candidates are mostly funded by ALEC and super-PACs owned by
the Koch Brothers and other similar financial interests. Organizations, such as
ALEC provide ready made arguments, so a candidate does not have to do any
mental work. They just memorize some one else’s arguments and they can win an
election by being a complete dolt.
In this case, the idiot Akin was trying to justify
anti-abortion extremist positions that appeal only to the most radical
religious right, but not the more mainstream anti-abortion groups.
According to Yahoo
News;
“(Reuters) - The
long-discredited notion that rape victims cannot become pregnant - a claim that
pushed Republicans to repudiate one of their own U.S. Senate candidates on Monday -
dates back centuries to when human reproduction was hardly understood.
But
the medieval theory has surfaced in 21st century political discourse as a
result of the U.S.
abortion wars.
Writers
from the Middle Ages and modern politicians alike have based their arguments on
the idea that a trauma of the magnitude of rape can shut down the body's
reproductive system.
The
combination of misunderstanding and cherry-picked science even led some to
conclude that a woman who says she was raped yet becomes pregnant must have
been lying about the attack. Modern proponents of the claim repeat it despite
empirical research showing that rape victims are at least as likely to become
pregnant as women who have consensual sex, and possibly more likely.”
And from Julie Burkhart, Director and Founder of Trust Women;“
“…From what I
understand from doctors, [pregnancy from rape is] really rare. If it’s a
legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing
down,” Akin said in
an interview with KTVI TV.
Akin’s purpose to making this claim is to argue for banning abortion – making it illegal for all women, even in cases of rape or incest.
Akin’s misguided beliefs about female anatomy and reproduction do not have any factual basis. There are 32,000 cases of pregnancy from rape per year in theU.S. alone.
Even most far-right politicians agree that abortion should be legal at least in
some cases.”

We see over and over again that the Republican Party insults
our intelligence by providing us with absolute morons, who run these campaigns
purely to make money for themselves and their corporate sponsors. These
elections are a farce. They are part of a coup by large corporate backers who
are taking over the Republican Party, changing the US political landscape and they
plan to privatize everything at the expense of our public infrastructure. They
plan to leave all working class people poor and powerless and the poor, sick
and unemployed will be crushed to pay for the wealthiest Americans. -សតិវ អតុ
