This story of three US sailors confronted by Turkish
activists (despite being reported that the Turkish Youth Union is a far-right
group, Wikipedia said it is far left) is not surprising. The US runs an empire and many people don’t like
being subjugated. The Turks are not directly subjugated as the people of Iraq
are. Turkey plays the role of a minor imperialist power in Syria and over the
Kurds. So they are only partially controlled by US imperialism. Still, as with Isreal,
Turkey is reliant on US for aid and the US is relying on Turkey to do its dirty
work in Syria and Kurdish regions. So there is no surprise that a country such
as Turkey is willing to tolerate the dissent of its citizens when they
criticize their masters’ and overloards’.
US troops should expect more of this as they end up in more
and more countries of the US Empire.

From The
L. A. Times:
Radical Turkish nationalists roughed up three U.S. Navy
servicemen in Istanbul on Wednesday, shouting “Yankees go home!” and pulling
bags down over the sailors' heads.
Video of the incident shows a small group of men carrying a
flag emblazoned with images of Turkish founding father Mustafa Kemal Ataturk
pelting the sailors with rubbish and paint before encircling them and pulling
shopping bags onto their heads.
“Because we define
you as murderers, as killers, we want you to get out of our land,” said one of
the assailants. “Damn America!”
