Let’s make it simple—just make it legal to conceal and carry a gun

I’ve never opposed gun owner ship in the US or Kansas. I was leery of the conceal-carry law when it first came out. Kansans shoot each other all the time in this state and the only good thing was that it is in their own homes. As long as a stay away from a rednecks home I felt safe. Letting some of those people wonder our streets packing heat seemed REAL creepy to me. But I have to admit, with the exception of such people as George Zimmerman, such shootings have not been common. Conceal-carry advocates point to low percentages for those who commit crimes who have a conceal-carry permit. Most in Kansas don’t commit illegal shootings.
And in the case of Zimmerman, others like him, have done the same kind of shooting and juries are reluctant to convict someone of using a concealed weapon when they say they feared and shot someone. So their shootings are not counted as a crime.
But critics point out that that doesn’t mean that these laws reduce crime. Statistics nation-wide vary with some states such states as Alabama, county-by-county, some counties have higher crime rates.
And still I’m amazed at what I call “gun worship.” Many Kansas conservatives feel their gun-rights have been under constant attack even though such anti-gun people in Kansas are almost non-existent. They feel a need to pass new laws each year to protect their right to carry guns to new places and new absurdities—churches, bars, government offices, schools, etc. I don’t know how often they think people are attacked by criminals in government offices or churches but many of these gun worshipers seem to think they need a gun EVERYWHERE and ANYWHERE. I’ll bet these people keep their guns on while bathing and making love.
This year gun rights activists will push for a constitutional amendment for the Kansas Constitution to spell out the right to carry a gun anywhere. But I have a better idea. Cut the cost of buying a license and get rid of the class. Everyone ridicules the class as being real easy. If it is so easy why have it at all. As for making it cheaper, cut the cost from $132.50 to $25 total so most poor people can get one. OR—even better—just get rid of the license all together. A handful of states do not even require permits to carry concealed guns. In such states poor people and wealthy people are on a fair playing field.
Right now it is too expensive for those who live in poor neighborhoods to afford conceal carry. Poor people deserve guns too. By next year the only place you will need that permit is if your gun is in your pocket or unseen. Right now a lot of rich and middle class people carry guns and I really don’t think this is about crime. Many want to shoot black people, poor hoboes, liberals and scary looking people.
Let’s level the playing field
