URGENT INDIA: Professor GN Saibaba sentenced to life imprisonment.

A report from the IANS agency reports that Delhi University professor GN Sabibaba
along with four others accused of having ties to the clandestine Communist Party of India (Maoist) have been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Court of Sessions of Gadchiroli Maharashtra).
Professor Saibaba, aged 47 and with a disability of 90%, was arrested in May 2014 on charges of being a member of the PCI (Maoist). After being in painful conditions in the Nagpur jail, he was allowed, on parole, to undergo medical treatment in April last year.

Prosecutors argued that Mishra, Tirki and Narote entered the forests of Gadchiroli in Maharashtra to meet with Narmada Akka, a senior Maoist commander, who received 500,000 rupees, to hand over Professor Saibaba with the aim of spreading Maoist ideology in the city.

Together with Professor Saibaba, Jawaharlal Nehru University student and member of the Democratic Union of Students (DSU), Hem Mishra, journalist Prashant Rahi, have been sentenced to life imprisonment, Mahesh Tirki and Pandu Narote.

A founding member of the Revolutionary Democratic Front, Professor Saibaba is a prestigious revolutionary intellectual and his case has raised an important wave of solidarity at the international level, his case being treated even in the European Parliament. Correovermello-news
