In battle there are always ups and downs. The Indian
government has thrown everything it has, militarily, at the insurgency of the Communist
Party of India (Maoist). That movement, along with the Communist Party of the
Philippines, are the most successful Maoist insurgencies in the world. Both
parties are banned. And the reason is obvious—they have been successful. The
governments in both countries have not been able to wipe those groups out despite
throwing everything they have militarily at them.
The CPI (Maoist) may have lost an important leader. But that
can happen during war. The entire worlds Maoist movements strongly support the CPI
(Maoist).
According to The
Indian Express news agency, Police are trying to verify if top Maoist
leader Milind Teltumbde was present at the encounter site of an ambush of
Maoist guerrillas.
Teltumbde heads the Maharashtra-Madhya Pradesh-Chhattisgarh
zone of the banned CPI (Maoist).
We will have
more on this as it unfolds.
