Billionaire Rex Sinquefield wants to rewrite the Missouri Constitution, and he has the money to make that happen.
     For those who don't know, Rex Singuefield, co-founder and past co-chairman of Dimensional Fund Advisors Inc., is an economic conservative who has, in recent years, opened his checkbook to give tens of thousands of dollars to Missouri politicians. While most of his money goes to republicans, some democrats, such as St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay, also receive his generous contributions. A free market fundamentalist, Singuefield's  primary goal is to influence state and local tax and spending policies.

     If money is "speech" in American politics, then Singuefield has a lot to say. To that end he has funded his own think tank, the Show Me Institute, and a number of political action commitees, including United for Missouri and United for Missouri's Future.      Essentially, Singuefield has built an infrastructure of political influence. He has state legislators to introduce legislation for him and research "institutes" to provide studies purporting to prove that his proposals will be good for the economy.  If his idea can't get through the legislature, he can fund a petition drive to get it on the ballot as a referendum. The PACs can then be used to generate well funded "grass roots" support for the proposal and produce slick TV and radio ads to sell it. 

 Singuefield had his biggest success to date when he pushed through an amendment to the state constitution that requires St. Louis City and Kansas City to hold a vote on their respective earnings(income) taxes. Rex really hates income taxes. This year, he has two more constitutional amendments on his agenda: one would place strict limits on state spending and the other would replace Missouri's income tax with a higher state sales tax.

     If there was ever any doubt that money buys political influence, Rex Singuefield puts that to rest. He is Missouri's poster child for "the 1%".

Viva la Revolución en la India, faro de lucha de los pueblos del mundo

La lucha revolucionaria en la India, dirigida por el Partido Comunista de la India (maoísta) representa sin duda la lucha más avanzada que encabezan los comunistas hoy en el mundo. Una gran movilización de masas pobres en el campo y la ciudad, un ejército popular y un partido organizado son los protagonistas de una guerra revolucionaria que enfrenta una poderosa fuerza reaccionaria como es el Estado Indio (y sus amos imperialistas) que están dispuestos a aplicar toda clase de represión, asesinato y genocidio para aplastar la revolución maoísta.

Decimos que este proceso revolucionario es el más importante en el mundo debido a sus objetivos. Estos buscan claramente una ruptura radical con el sistema capitalista, con el viejo Estado Indio, están dirigidos a construir una sociedad nueva fuera de los marcos del sistema imperialista mundial, cosa muy diferente a los muchos movimientos de masas en el mundo, aunque importantes pero espontáneos, o a las fuertes luchas nacionales en los pueblos árabes que han sido muy importantes y estremecedoras pero carecen de una dirección que rompa los marcos del viejo sistema, o como los eclécticos procesos de reformas en América Latina que incluyen reestructuración de los Estados burgués-terratenientes, recambio de sectores de las clases dominantes, si bien con demagogia antiimperialista, dentro del sistema capitalista y jamás han dado una señal (ni podrían hacerlo) de ir en la dirección de acabar con este sistema en el que se reproducen.

La Revolución en la India tiene gran significación para los comunistas en el mundo, nuestro deber internacionalista es hacer todo lo que esté en nuestro alcance para contribuir a su éxito y triunfo, aquello pasa por redoblar los esfuerzos en nuestro trabajo por eso nuestro saludo va unido a nuestro compromiso.

Pero también es nuestro deber internacionalista plantear nuestras preocupaciones, no seríamos comunistas si no decimos nada cuando vemos cosas que nos preocupan. Es el revisionismo quien oculta sus posiciones nacionalistas con el argumento “no entrometerse en las cosas de otros partidos” para no hacer críticas y especialmente no ser criticado, estos criterios esconden concepciones feudales que expresan el “aquí mando yo y allá mandas tú”, o “esta es mi parcela y no te metas”. Creemos que el verdadero internacionalismo debe pasar por criticarnos para poder ver nuestros errores.

El Movimiento Comunista Internacional está siendo protagonista de una fuerte lucha de dos líneas absolutamente necesaria luego de la crisis y dispersión que ha sufrido con la aparición y consolidación de posiciones revisionistas en el que fue uno de sus destacamentos más avanzados, el PCN(m) de Nepal, donde sus líderes, Prachanda y Battarai se pasaron al bando contrarrevolucionario traicionando la heroica lucha del pueblo nepalés al pactar con las clases dominantes y entregar el nuevo poder conquistado en el campo a las fuerzas feudales y burguesas de ese país.

La lucha de dos líneas surgida en el MCI entabló combate con estas posiciones así también con la dirección del MRI, en particular su Comité, que claramente perdió su calidad de dirección revolucionaria al no promocionar la lucha contra el nuevo revisionismo de Prachanda y compañía. Zanjar definitivamente con el nuevo revisionismo aparecido en las filas maoístas implica luchar también con las posiciones conciliadoras (centristas) que no reconocen que el hoy PCUN(m) está plagado de revisionismo y que la lucha de facciones al interior de éste se encuentran en el marco de las posiciones revisionistas desarrolladas por Prachanda en el pacto que asumió con las clases dominantes nepalesas. No será posible pensar en la construcción de un nuevo centro de dirección comunista si la lucha contra el nuevo revisionismo no va hasta el fin.

Por esta razón es muy importante la voz del PCI(m) en esta lucha, su ausencia y la firma de declaraciones conjuntas con el partido revisionista nepalés es algo que nos preocupa. Hemos aprendido y estamos aprendiendo mucho de la lucha de los maoístas en la India y queremos seguir aprendiendo, como hemos dicho al inicio, es la lucha de más trascendencia en el mundo hoy y por ello su participación plena en aplastar al revisionismo actual puede ser decisiva.

Enviamos nuestro caluroso saludo, nuestra alegría revolucionaria y nuestra solidaridad de clase, nuestro odio al enemigo común. Somos parte de un mismo movimiento, un pequeño destacamento más en el corazón de Sudamérica que se suma a los demás destacamentos para cumplir con su deber internacionalista de apoyo a la revolución en la India.

Letter to the Mayor, OPD and City Council on Occupy Oakland's Move-in Day

Dear Mayor Jean Quan, Oakland Police Department, and Oakland City Council,

As you probably know, Occupy Oakland is planning the occupation of a building on January 28th that will serve as a social center, convergence center, headquarters, free kitchen, and place of housing for Occupy Oakland. Like so many other people, Occupy Oakland is homeless while buildings remain vacant and unused. For Occupy this is in large part because of yourselves, having evicted us twice from public space that was rightfully ours. For others it is because of the housing bubble, predatory lending, the perpetual crises of capitalism, and far reaching histories of imperialism and systemic violence.
Our families, friends, and communities built the buildings that sit empty in post-industrial Oakland. Now these buildings outnumber the homeless and represent the theft of our collective labor as the class of the unpropertied and dispossessed. Allowing this building to remain vacant while so many are in need is injurious theft, injustice; its extralegal occupancy is not.
When Occupy Oakland was first evicted on October 25, we organized a General Strike on November 2nd with only a week to plan. November 2nd proved our strength and relevancy. Conservative estimates said twenty thousand took the streets, but for those of us who marched on the ports it could have been a hundred thousand.  November 2nd was an inspiration for the Occupy Movement and public condemnation of your violent repression. UK police arrest Murdoch tabloid staff—possible bribery

LONDON (Reuters) - British police arrested four current and former staff of Rupert Murdoch's best-selling Sun tabloid plus a policeman on Saturday as part of an investigation into suspected payments by journalists to officers, police and the newspaper's publisher said.

Police also searched the paper's London offices at publisher News International, News Corp's British arm, in a corruption probe linked to a continuing investigation into phone hacking at its now closed News of the World weekly tabloid.

ALEC and the corporate take over of Kansas lawmakers

According to an organization called Kansans Count, About 1/4 of our Kansas legislators have ties to a lobby group called ALEC, that is American Legislative Exchange Council.
ALEC claims to want “Limited Government · Free Markets · Federalism”. But opponents argue that the real attempt is to give almost all government control to corporate interests and virtually nothing to the common working citizen.
As Alec Exposed explains it;
“Through the corporate-funded American Legislative Exchange Council, global corporations and state politicians vote behind closed doors to try to rewrite state laws that govern your rights. These so-called "model bills" reach into almost every area of American life and often directly benefit huge corporations. Through ALEC, corporations have "a VOICE and a VOTE" on specific changes to the law that are then proposed in your state.”

Kansans Count has also stated what the goals of this group are;
“Suppress the vote(new voter ID cards needed).
Alienate communities of color(legalizing racial profiling against immigrants).
Destroy organized labor (especially in the public sector).
Decimate public programs (and privatize what’s left).
Enact corporate welfare (shift the tax burden to those who can least afford it)”.
This group’s members have said they believe that ALEC is focusing on state governments rather than national laws. With the push for state rights, it will be easier for them to defend the changes they make and prevent the federal government from overturning laws that may be un-constitutional.
The point of this story is that corporate lobby groups such as ALEC are trying to take complete control of the government for their own greedy and racist agenda. They want the rest of us to foot the bills.

Marxist logos—I only need a three head logo instead of five heads

 

It was some time ago that Mike Ely of the Kasama Project discussed three heads vs., five heads or even just one. In other words, many Maoist sites have a logo with Karl Marx, VI Lenin and Mao Zedong’s face. The one below is an example;

 

It’s a fairly simple logo that allows the reader to know that the site is both Marxist-Leninist and Maoist.

I was exposed to Maoism long ago, after he was dead. I read his books and realized a new way of looking at politics and philosophy. Of the various sects out there with their ideologies, symbols and “heads” I found Maoism to be the most democratic minded.

Still there are the longer versions of Maoists banners and flags that include Friedrich Engels and Joseph Stalin.

 Engels deserves to be on a banner, because most of what Marx wrote, Engels wrote with him. Stalin on the other hand is not a hero to all Maoists. He did have the right idea on “Socialism in one country” instead of Leon Trotsky’s continuing revolution. Stalin was an early ally of Mao and influenced much of Mao’s early writings. As time went on he changed those ideas and came up with many of his own. His wife, Jiang Qing didn’t like Stalin at all.

While some of us are willing to admit that Stalin was a paranoid and murderous tyrant, despite his important role in Marxist development, other Maoist still see him as a hero who is a victim of Bourgeoisie propaganda.

While researching this piece, I discovered that other people had great heads. I found an example of a Marxist-Leninist flag. I guess those who flew it figured the two of them were enough.

 

Then there is the Marxist-Leninist-Stalinist logo. I guess those people just don’t care for Mao and his contributions.

I found a Leon Trotsky logo with Marx-Lenin-Trotsky. I’ve seen those before. I guess a lot of people want at least three or four big heads on their banners. It lets us know who they favor.

Perhaps the most interesting was the Spartacus league in Germany which has a poster with the heads of Lenin, Karl Liebknecht and Rosa Luxemburg. Not only were these lesser known Marxist theoreticians, they included an ancient rebel in their name. That is one thing other Marxists don’t do enough.

 

The only exceptions I know of are the groups calling them selves Túpac Amaru.

There are many Marxist writers who don’t get to be the big heads, mostly because they focus on geographic locations, or they are more specific in what they write about, while the other Marxist “heads” are more universally applied. There is Kwami Nkruma, Herbert Marcuse, Jean-Paul Sartre, Kim Il Sung and now his son Kim Jong Il, Antonio Gramsci; and José Carlos Mariátegui just to name a few.

 Mao Stalin and Trotsky are like the William Shakespeares of Marxist Theory. To the play writing student, classes always start with Shakespeare and from there on, a person can put on Eugène Ionesco or a Sartre play. It’s like that in Marxist Politics. Marx is the beginning. Even a lot of Socialist Democrats read him. Then there is Marxist-Leninism or communist revolution. Then a person can pick one of the other big heads, which will define their beliefs further. A lot has to do with vision and strategy. The other writers offer us some insight into the over all struggle and many have made huge contributions to Marxism. And let’s not forget the ancients who contributed in some way to our present beliefs, Democritus, Epicurus, Spartacus, Thomas Müntzer, and many more.

Now here is the big question. Marx is from the 19^th century, Lenin crossed the 19^th century to the 20^th century, Stalin and Mao were products of the 20^th century, so who will be a 21^st century head to add to our collection? Some members of the RIM are already suggesting we add Abimael Guzmán or, as he is known, Chairman Gonzalo. Most Big heads are dead people, and Gonzalo is not. Some of his supporters, inside and outside of Peru already include him in the big heads;

 

There are Maoists who dislike him as much as some Maoists dislike Stalin. But it seems too early to try and add the next 21^st Century “big head.” It’s early in the century and a lot can happen between 2012 and 2099. We will just have to wait and see. For now, The Kasama Project has rejected all heads. I like the simple round red symbol with Marx-Lenin-Mao. People realize I’m a Maoist. I don’t have to defend Stalin although I will defend Jiang Qing. -សតិវ អតុ

but also in various bilatelaral meetings with indian, afgan,european,
nepalese comrades,  parties and organisations has expressed his critic for '
centrist' approach of nepalese left comrades about the internal struggle in
PCNUm[1] and our party demands to these comrades to change his approach.
This struggle it is not completed and this struggle will continue until the
victory of mlm in Nepal and in international arena.

Our party is historic member of the Rim[2] and all in the rim - less out the
rim and this is our limit - know our internal struggle against avakian[3]
tendency and also against centrist position of PCNm about international
problems.
Our party has been in all rim's live the only party that is allied of PCP as
red fraction in RIM and our party organised three international  public
meeting on this question with MPP[4]
Our party is the only party in the RIM - with comrades of PCP - that is
supporter of  WP line in imperialist countries and on this question makes a
strong struggle also towards PCPhilippines and PCIm India about this

Wichita City wants new hotel—their last one is going broke

Wichita doesn’t have any public transportation after 6pm. They lack a lot of services. But not when it comes to investing public money in downtown hotels.
According to The Wichita Eagle, the city will spend $30 million on a hotel on the southeast corner of Douglas and Broadway. Some citizens have launched the Wichita Petition drive to try to stop this money from being spent.

It’s been a lot of work. Wichita city leaders ought to take notice that citizens are so opposed to their actions that they will venture out in winter to gather signatures in opposition.”

But the Wichita City Council seems to take care of those who pay for their campaigns, the local developers. Most likely they will just ignore the petition.
The city has allowed a growth program that encouraged people to move out to the edge of town and now mega marts and huge shopping centers are located at such places as 21st and Maize.
Now they wonder why they can’t revitalize downtown. They city has already launched a 10-year $2.4 billion capital improvements plan on the city-owned Hyatt Wichita, amidst a mountain of spiralling debt, according to The Wichita Eagle.
So far the Hyatt was supposed to be a part of a water-walk development that now looks like a huge white elephant. There are a few businesses along the river, such as a sporting good store, but not enough to draw people to a high profile hotel in that area.
The city also has a 10-year capital improvements plan, such as a new Mid-Continent Airport terminal, a new downtown library and the east Kellogg extension. The City Council is depending on a combination of sales tax-backed general obligation bonds and state and federal funding.
Once again we see the incompetence of city leaders who have grand ideas, listen to developers, and ignore the average people and their needs.
 

 

Fight against the attempt to outlaw Communism and Communists in Italy (part 3)

We can use each step in this direction, every single attack, arbitrariness and lawlessness. We must use it to weaken the already precarious direction of the ruling class on the popular masses, foster contradictions within itself, raise the class consciousness, mobilizing and strengthening the popular organization (it is also the most effective way to repel every single attack, abuse and illegality).

In these years, in order to face the legal repression and turn it in favor of the new birth of the communist movement, our three organizations have followed this line:

 1. to develop initiatives of mobilization and solidarity of the popular masses: information, complaint, call for solidarity, initiatives of political solidarity and economic support, with the aim of expanding ties with the masses, to develop a united front against the repression; initiatives of resistance and opposition to the repression and solidarity with all organizations, activists, workers and other members of the people hit by the forces of repression, regardless of the charges brought against them by the Authorities (judging by class and political and not by legalistic criteria );

2. promoting specific actions between genuine democrats (intellectuals, politicians and trade unions) to induce the largest possible number of them to speak out against the persecution of Communists and in general against repression and to express their solidarity;

3. not collaborating in the performance of the neutral justice, “the same for everyone,” but to transform the judiciary proceedings in a trial against the Authorities who violate their own laws and go against the interests of the masses.

The results obtained so far have confirmed that it is a correct line.

The process that opens on 8^th February will be an opportunity

1. to propagandize the popular emergency government and socialism and mobilize workers and the rest of the masses;

2. to assert the importance of organizations and individuals’ resistance to the repression of the bourgeoisie and its apparatus. This resistance is the basis for developing the fight against repression and promote solidarity with the organizations and comrades that repression hit: the resistance to repression firstly is established continuing the struggle, developing class solidarity, improving our understanding and our mobilization: the struggle pays! The fact that the activity of the (n) PCI and of the caravan has continued and developed in spite of the blows of repression has been the main cause of the failure of the attack of the Papal Republic Authorities and of the strengthening of the revolutionary forces;

3. to unmask the bourgeois legality (the legality of the rule of imperialist bourgeoisie’s ringleaders and their circle on the rest of the population) claiming that the basis of a law worthy of the name is the right of each person to work and live in dignity and to promote the only true law at this stage: to rebel against every sacrifice, enforcement and abuse;

4. to denounce the class character of bourgeois institutions and justice: powerless, tolerant or party with the rich and powerful and coward and bully with the popular masses and the weak;

5. to exploit every opportunity and every grip provided by laws in force, through the mobilization of lawyers and of all sincere democrats and progressives in order to denounce the violations of rights sanctioned by the Constitution and to prevent the condemnation;

6. to develop political solidarity and economic support of the masses, intellectuals, true democrats, politicians and administrators of public with organizations and comrades under attack;

7. to develop the fighting front against repression and bourgeois legalism with political, trade union and popular organizations and with individual comrades;

8. to denounce how the bourgeoisie and its institutions squander public money (taken from choking more and more workers and pensioners) to persecute political opponents: they do not have money for kindergartens, schools, health, transport but they find it immediately for subsidizing political police, judges and special anti-terrorist courts.

We call upon all communist anti-imperialist and progressive organizations,, genuine democrats, struggling organizations and movements, lawyers, journalists, politicians and trade unionists

- To reject the ongoing campaign of Communism criminalization and Communists’ persecution,

- To contribute (politically and economically) in the battle for the full acquittal of comrade tried!

We call democrats and intellectuals, journalists because they do not lend themselves to political-police plots and to the censorship imposed by the Authorities on the trial and on Communists’ persecution, and because they give voice to the defendants, lawyers, judges who have already issued nonsuit or dismissal judgments. The independent information is used to defend freedoms and values of the antifascist Constitution practicing them.

We call judges, prosecutors and democratic officers in the Court of Bologna and in other Courts to not become a party in the persecution, but to play their part to make it fail with public stands, interviews, etc... Its failure is in the interests of those who care about the values of the antifascist Constitution .

We call the mayors and other administrators of the new municipal government of Naples, Milan, Cagliari and others (which have established themselves at odds with the old government linked to the top managers of the Papal Republic and subordinate to their governments) to take a stand against this judicial persecution (with public stands, interviews, provision of public halls, etc..) as a concrete and consistent demonstration of the defense of the rights of civilization ratified by the Constitution and of workers and popular masses’ interests.

The victory of this battle will strengthen the rights of civilization conquered with the Resistance!

It will strengthen the people’s struggle against the government of the speculators, of the imperialist bourgeoisie and of the Vatican. It will strengthen the struggle to build a popular emergency government and it will make us advance in the struggle to make Italy a new socialist country!

No to the outlawing of the (n)PCI and of the organizations of the caravan!

Let’s raise the banner of solidarity and class struggle to get out from the wreckage and misery of this system and to build a new future for humanity!
