Voting people’s rights away is unconstitutional

From Wichita Peace and Freedom Party Examiner

If I were black I would hope they never have a vote on the idea of bringing back slavery, because it would probably pass. (for those of you who take this all serious, this statement is an exageration) This country seems to be mean-spirited, egocentric, and self centered people who care only about themselves and don’t care who they step on to get what they want. The latest example of this is Proposition 8. A federal judge in California ruled that the state's ban on same-sex marriage violates the constitutional right to equal protection. This is the first step in a legal struggle that is widely expected to end at the Supreme Court.

Already there are groups of people who want to gather petitions and money to fight this issue to the bitter end. The best example to date is the website called Protect Marriage.com. Their stated purpose is;
The Proposition 8 Legal Defense Fund supports our top-notch legal team which is currently defending Proposition 8 in the Perry v. Schwarzenegger trial in the Federal Court. Our opponents enjoy the financial largesse of wealthy same-sex marriage activists and often benefit from taxpayer-funded legal services from public entities such as the City and County of San Francisco. As the only organization defending Proposition 8 in the courts, we have had to rely on the generosity of individual supporters of traditional marriage.

They already contradict themselves by claiming their opponents are well funded by gays with money, while claiming at the same time these gays get some kind of welfare to help them. Which is it? It can’t be both.
They state that they want to “educate” the public that gay parents are not fit to raise children;

ProtectMarriage.com Educational Foundation supports the academic research which demonstrates what we already know: that children raised in the embrace of traditional marriage have the best chance to lead happy and productive lives, and that the next generation of society benefits from children raised in a home with both a mom and a dad.

A lot of effort has gone into this site and the homophobia is disguised as concern over the welfare of children and society. In reality it is an example of wealthy hypocritical bigots that simply want to push around a minority of people. It is a sad day that so much money and effort has gone into this defence of bigotry.
