From Wichita Peace and Freedom Party Examiner ;
Governor Sam Brownback discussed promoting marriage this week at a town-hall meeting that was meant to look at Children in Poverty. As usual, the Republicans tried to place blame rather than looking for real cause they could affect.
“Awesome action of Occupy Wichita at the Brownback town hall at the Broadview. We stood up first with our backs to the Heritage Foundation propagandist and then opened the people's mic when he finished. We got good support from the attendees, several people were detained and one arrested. Power to the people!”

Robert Rector, of the conservative Heritage Foundation suggested reducing the number of children born to single mothers as his main attack on child poverty. He also claim that single mothers, born since the mid 1960s have been a major reason for the poverty of today, according the The Wichita Eagle.
Childhood poverty has risen from 12 percent to 18percent from 2000 to 2009.
Brownback has been putting on these public meetings all across Kansas. In Wichita the meeting was confronted by members of Occupy Wichita. They turned their backs to Rector and then chanted after the open mike session, partially disrupting the meeting. According to Janice Bradley, of Occupy Wichita;“Awesome action of Occupy Wichita at the Brownback town hall at the Broadview. We stood up first with our backs to the Heritage Foundation propagandist and then opened the people's mic when he finished. We got good support from the attendees, several people were detained and one arrested. Power to the people!”
Some people thought that Rector’s ideas were too simplistic and did not take into consideration other reasons for poverty such as battered women. He also overlooked the lack of jobs, lack of healthcare, lack of healthcare in general, and problems with our education system.
