Kansas-Dr. Neuhaus chosen scapegoat for “pro-lifers”

The Kansas Board of Healing Arts has recently made scapegoat a of Dr. Kris Neuhaus, MD for the efforts of prolife politicians who have tried for years to shut down Dr. George Tiller's abortion clinic.
According to an report from AP;
“A disciplinary hearing beginning today in Kansas is expected to scrutinize how one physician arrived at second opinions allowing the late Dr. George Tiller's clinic to go ahead with late-term abortions for young patients.
Dr. Ann Kristin Neuhaus faces allegations that she did inadequate mental health examinations before referring patients to Tiller's clinic in Wichita. A complaint before the State Board of Healing Arts deals with her care for 11 patients, aged 10 to 18, all at least 25 weeks pregnant, who received abortions from July to November 2003”.

The board has finished and found Neuhaus guilty. This is not just a board of doctors. This all started when former Kansas Attorney General  Phill Kline, elected by pro-life forces and lacking any Attorney’s credentials, went on a witch-hunt to find any evidence of medical mal treatment in order to shut down all abortion clinics in Kansas. Add to that—Governor Sam Brownback appointed Rick Macias, an adoption lawyer and anti-abortion activist who knows nothing about the medical profession, in order to stack the deck against Neuhaus and anyone like her.
The charges against her were trite and the so called “pro-lifers” have claimed that abortion clinics are completely unsanitary and that doctors such as Neuhaus are rubber stamps for second opinions of abortion doctors.
Neuhaus faced allegations that she did inadequate mental health examinations before referring patients to Tiller's clinic. A complaint before the State Board of Healing Arts concerned her care for 11 patients, aged 10 to 18, all at least 25 weeks pregnant, who received abortions from July to November 2003.
Since Tiller is now dead the anti-abortion politicians have to go after his co-workers such as Neuhaus.
According to Welcome to Brownbackistan! Ms Neuhaus said;
“The only “legitimate” investigation against me, that is, one in which the complaint was filed by an actual patient, was a case in which the patient, a destitute teenage mother living with her mother, her toddler, and four siblings, who to her great credit, testified during deposition that she had done so at the urging of her family in hope of financial gain, after seeing a news story on TV.
This self-prejudicial testimony did not stop KSBHA attorney Kelli Stevens from feeding the girl’s financial expectations and putting her on the stand to testify that Dr. Neuhaus had notin fact, as asserted by Ms. Stevens (then Benintendi) performed an abortion against her will.
Ironically, this patient had received a significantly discounted fee for her procedure in recognition of her circumstances. She did not express any dissatisfaction or complications at her follow-up visit, and did not file a malpractice suit subsequently.
This provides insight into how these government agencies can cause irreparable harm, by propagating falsehoods to the media, which even though later disproved, have already caused permanent damage to the reputation and financial resources of the victim. In fact, this was the primary reason the Lawrence clinic could not have continued in its former capacity, even had I wished it to given our family circumstances at that time, in 2002.”
Neuhaus is still fighting to keep her license. That is not easy in a state that treats legal abortion doctors as if they were organized crime bosses.  Her legal troubles are not over yet.
The anti-abortion crusaders don’t care who they hurt.
