With elections coming up here in Kansas, many persons and groups are choosing candidates to support. Political action committees are busy campaigning for a variety of candidates.
As for the presidential race, that is purely a spectator sport in Kansas. Thanks to the Electoral College, the winning party, which is nearly always the Republicans, gets all the electoral votes. Since Kansas has swung further to the right than it has in many years, the Republican Party has a solid hold on this state. The presidential vote in Kansas has been called for Romney almost as soon as he was nominated. There is no campaigning here in Kansas because the outcome of the election just isn’t in doubt. So there is no reason to even vote for president in Kansas.
Locally there are contested races for Kansas senators and representatives who will help shape the Kansas Government in Topeka. Political interests of big business, such as the Kansas Chamber of Commerce, corporations such as Crossland Construction in Southeast Kansas and right-wing front groups like Americans for Prosperity are pouring millions of dollars in to the campaigns of far-right candidates that plan to support Governor Sam Brownback.

The Working Kansas Alliance is pro-worker lobby groups that has endorsed candidates they feel are friendly to the needs of Kansas workers and their families.Terry Forsyth, president of the Alliance, criticized a buss tour in which Governor Brownback promoted candidates he felt will be his allies in the Kansas legislature. According to The Wichita Eagle, Brownback’s Road Map PAC raised nearly $66,500 from July 27 through Oct. 25 and he spent about $51,500, according to a disclosure report.
"No matter how many "tours" the Governor embarks on, it cannot change the fact that his road map has lead to historic cuts to Kansas schools to pay for tax breaks for the wealthy and his corporate campaign supporters, leaving the rest of us with higher property taxes," Forsyth said.
