Some of us are
getting tired of hearing about “your American Dream” from commercials such as
American Family Insurance. Day after day we are supposed to be inspired by
those who “follow their dreams.”
It is all
designed to make us feel good inside that we live in a country were we can
follow our dreams. For many people that dream is an illusion and feeds into the
tired out idea that we can get anything or achieve anything if we work hard
enough. The reality is that many people fall through the cracks and end up with
nothing to show for their efforts. Only a few people have the talent to start
and run a business. Most fail. So we keep getting fed this illusion designed to
make us feel good about ourselves and our society. SandRidge Energy had a similar
commercial on TV.
Fidelity Bank
has a commercial calling entrepreneurs “heroes”
and the “backbone of the Economy.” Again this is to support the American myth
that anyone here can make it and our nation depends on those who do. As with
the other add, it is designed to be a feel good piece, even though only a hand
full of Americans get to run their own businesses. Are we supposed to offer
these “heroes” a blowjob, since they are so much more important than us?
It’s not
surprising that these corporations are mouthing the official ideological line
of our corporate masters and their government. Most people are not entrepreneurs so this is a system for busyness, by business and
paid for by the rest of the tax payers. In fact these corporations never pay as
high taxes as the working class pay.
Their ‘feel good
about a system that rips us off’ message is becoming more common as
corporations realize they can sell ideology as easily as they can sell
insurance or banking. More and more we are bombarded on our TVs by the most
annoying commercials and their messages of pure garbage.
