Afghanistan – The other Mid-East war

Once again we spend a lot of time talking about the war in Iraq and forgetting we are still at war in Afghanistan. It's a little war, like Panama or Grenada. But this war continues one and we are loosing our young people there and even though the numbers are small, they are our dead.

We have also caused instability in that region pitting Afghans against each other and the death toll for them is not so low, they are loosing a lot of people.

For example, from The Wichita Eagle:

"May. 29, 2007

U.S.-led forces battle Taliban
KABUL, Afghanistan -- Taliban militants ambushed U.S.-led coalition forces in southern Afghanistan, sparking a 10-hour battle and air strikes that killed an estimated two dozen militants, the coalition said Monday. Villagers said seven civilians were among the dead.

Meanwhile, the U.N. human rights chief in Afghanistan, said there were between 320 and 380 civilian deaths in military operations and militant violence in the first four months of the year.

The number of bombs dropped in Afghanistan has far surpassed the number in Iraq in recent years. Some suggest the reason is there are too few U.S. ground troops in Afghanistan and the target areas are far removed from international media scrutiny."

We have lost four US soldiers just a few days ago:

"INSURGENCY INTENSIFIES IN AFGHANISTAN

By Afzal Khan

Insurgency has intensified in Afghanistan, giving rise to speculation as to whether it is a Taliban resurgence or broader Pashtun rebellion against non-Pashtun Kabul government. US-led coalition forces are girding for more difficult battles ahead. Suspected Taliban attacks against US-led coalition forces in Afghanistan are intensifying and becoming deadlier. On May 29, four US Special Forces (SOF) soldiers were killed when their vehicle hit an explosive device in the mountains of southeastern Zabul province bordering Pakistan. (Jihadunspun.com, May 31, Voice of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mashad, in Dari, 30 May)."

So Prez George Bush is fucking up more than just one country at a time. He's multi-tasking at fucking up the entire Middle-East.
