As I sit here on this 4th of July Holiday in
front of my TV, I listened to ABC News personalities interview Generals
about their feelings about the US withdrawal from Afghanistan. There is
absolutely no sense that invading someone else’s country, by the US, was the
wrong thing to do, in any way shape or form. ABC News pundits have
spent endless time shedding crocodile tears over the US pull out, which was recently
ordered by President Joe Biden. The way they talk I have to think they see
Biden as some kind of nasty villain for doing what I think should have been
done years ago. Not many years ago I heard singer song-writer Patti Smith say
that it is ridiculous that in the 21st century we still have the institution of
war. I heard all of these News commentators talking to generals about how much
they fear for the safety of friends they made, who sold out their own country to
the US invaders and now they may be in danger without their US managers there to
protect them.
There is no sense of fairness when it comes to the idea that
the US has a right to invade and remove a government that they accused of
promoting terrorism against them. They idea of the US forcing its will on others,
the creation of a US puppet to replace the Taliban, has not been questioned at
all by our main stream press nor any politicians, with the exception of Rep. Ilhan Omar. And they act as if Omar is some kind of radical off the charts villain.
US Troops have been treated by our main stream press and
political establishment as heroes defending those poor defenseless people against
those terrible Taliban. I have never liked the Taliban. But they were the only
political establishment in Afghanistan that had any popular support. The
government, the US installed, was made from some deeply corrupt officials that
the Taliban had pushed out of power. They had no credibility in the eyes of the
Afghanistan people. But they made good servants for their US masters. ABC
News pundits are also gushing about the US support of women’s rights. The
US often ignores such rights in countries as Saudi Arabia, where US vested
interest allows this country to ignore all human rights there.
