Every time a person goes on a killing spree politicians start pointing fingers at each other. Liberals claim that the killings represent the need for better gun control. Conservatives usually want stiffer punishment, claiming that it’s the people ant not the guns responsible for this tragedy.
Already we are seeing signs that the shooter of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords in Arozona, Jared Lee Loughner, had serious mental problems. That is our problem with the present gun laws. We can’t keep crazy people from buying and shooting guns.
Some are blaming Sarah Palin and others who are promoting an atmosphere of fear, paranoia and hate. She used cross hairs to target legislators she wanted out of office.
Some people want restrictions of speech. Others want more gun control.
But the first amendment is like a sacred creed. We band inflamintory right-wing speech, next its left-wing speech.
So what is the solution? Many people don’t feel safe without guns. So that issue is nil. We can look into the mental health of a gun buyer. The insane seem to cause the most problems.
As for left- vs. Right, we may have to live with the fact that political paranoids have and will have guns. Many left-wingers will have to adopt for the time being. Sentiments may change, but that will take a while. Guns are not safe, but if everyone has one, the best thing to do is for all of us who can afford them to buy our own weapons and learn to use them.
