Remember when we weren't so divided?

From
Wichita Peace and Freedom Party Examiner;

The following short film makes it look like the country was pulling together after a Democrat was elected to try and stop the Great Depression. We are now in the worst recession since the Great Depression, but far from pulling together; this country is tearing itself apart. The National Industrial Recovery Act (NIRA), was an American statute which authorized the President of the United States to regulate industry and permit cartels and monopolies in an attempt to stimulate economic recovery, and established a national public works program.
All of this would be a communist plot to the Tea Party Members. The idea of the government doing anything to help the poor and put people back to work would fire up the Republicans to repeal the NIRA and return the country to the shabby mess it was during the Herbert Hoover years.
In these modern times the Tea Party Express talks of doing exactly that—removing every social safety net ever enacted to help the American People afloat. They want to get rid of unemployment, Social Security and Medicare. Their slogan should be “We Don’t Care!” that is about anyone but themselves.
Some people are saying that this country is as divided today as it was in the Civil War. With this attitude, we have no way of helping the average American of keeping their homes or getting a job. All we have today is bitterness, hate, scapegoating and the vilification of one party by the other.
