International Women’s Day

“Break the Chains! Unleash the Fury of Women as a Mighty Force for Revolution!”

-  Jiang Qing ( 江青).

Our government (Dems. and GOP) want to ban most of the Occupy Movement

Yes this is what a police state looks like. Congress just passed a bill that will make it a felony to be in a so called “restricted area.” The term restricted is clouded in the “national defence” jargon for legitimacy. What is that area going to be? It could mean that people protesting the Democrats (who all voted for this) or the Republican convention grounds can be convicted of a felony, if they wonder into the wrong area. Anyone in a park after they have been told to leave could end up with a felony, depending on who defines “restricted area.”
With felony convictions many people, such as teachers and other government professionals, would be fired from their jobs. Felons can’t own guns and they can’t vote. So maybe that is the intent of the law, to make sure that Occupyers can’t vote and can’t hold respectable jobs.

To be sure, the status quo (both parties) doesn’t like the Occupy movement. It outright exposes and challenges the authority of the capitalist system, both the stooges who run for office and the moneyed people who back them. This is the most serious challenge to the United police States of Amerikkka’s government since the 1960’s It may even be more of a challenge because there are a lot of older activist around who remember that time and know what kind of dirty tricks the government will try on us. (See Kasama Project; Enemies Within: On Occupy and Infiltration).

This will make it almost impossible to challenge our leaders, political or economical with out breaking Federal laws. As many Occupyers have said, this is no different than the civil rights movement where people had to struggle for their rights against the establishment’s authority. Many in Occupy may only be reformist. But any attack on the capitalist and imperialist system is a welcomed change. Let’s all stand up to the challenge -សតិវ អតុ

US Congress expands authoritarian anti-protest law

A bill passed Monday in the US House of Representatives and Thursday in the Senate would expand existing anti-protest laws making it a felony—a serious criminal offense punishable by a lengthy prison term—to “enter or remain in” an area designated as “restricted.”
The bill—H.R. 347, or the “Federal Restricted Buildings and Grounds Improvement Act of 2011”—was passed by unanimous consent in the Senate, while only Ron Paul and two other Republicans voted against the bill in the House of Representatives (the bill passed 388-3). Not a single Democratic politician voted against the bill.

Kansas-Dr. Neuhaus chosen scapegoat for “pro-lifers”

The Kansas Board of Healing Arts has recently made scapegoat a of Dr. Kris Neuhaus, MD for the efforts of prolife politicians who have tried for years to shut down Dr. George Tiller's abortion clinic.
According to an report from AP;
“A disciplinary hearing beginning today in Kansas is expected to scrutinize how one physician arrived at second opinions allowing the late Dr. George Tiller's clinic to go ahead with late-term abortions for young patients.
Dr. Ann Kristin Neuhaus faces allegations that she did inadequate mental health examinations before referring patients to Tiller's clinic in Wichita. A complaint before the State Board of Healing Arts deals with her care for 11 patients, aged 10 to 18, all at least 25 weeks pregnant, who received abortions from July to November 2003”.

The board has finished and found Neuhaus guilty. This is not just a board of doctors. This all started when former Kansas Attorney General  Phill Kline, elected by pro-life forces and lacking any Attorney’s credentials, went on a witch-hunt to find any evidence of medical mal treatment in order to shut down all abortion clinics in Kansas. Add to that—Governor Sam Brownback appointed Rick Macias, an adoption lawyer and anti-abortion activist who knows nothing about the medical profession, in order to stack the deck against Neuhaus and anyone like her.
The charges against her were trite and the so called “pro-lifers” have claimed that abortion clinics are completely unsanitary and that doctors such as Neuhaus are rubber stamps for second opinions of abortion doctors.
Neuhaus faced allegations that she did inadequate mental health examinations before referring patients to Tiller's clinic. A complaint before the State Board of Healing Arts concerned her care for 11 patients, aged 10 to 18, all at least 25 weeks pregnant, who received abortions from July to November 2003.
Since Tiller is now dead the anti-abortion politicians have to go after his co-workers such as Neuhaus.
According to Welcome to Brownbackistan! Ms Neuhaus said;
“The only “legitimate” investigation against me, that is, one in which the complaint was filed by an actual patient, was a case in which the patient, a destitute teenage mother living with her mother, her toddler, and four siblings, who to her great credit, testified during deposition that she had done so at the urging of her family in hope of financial gain, after seeing a news story on TV.
This self-prejudicial testimony did not stop KSBHA attorney Kelli Stevens from feeding the girl’s financial expectations and putting her on the stand to testify that Dr. Neuhaus had notin fact, as asserted by Ms. Stevens (then Benintendi) performed an abortion against her will.
Ironically, this patient had received a significantly discounted fee for her procedure in recognition of her circumstances. She did not express any dissatisfaction or complications at her follow-up visit, and did not file a malpractice suit subsequently.
This provides insight into how these government agencies can cause irreparable harm, by propagating falsehoods to the media, which even though later disproved, have already caused permanent damage to the reputation and financial resources of the victim. In fact, this was the primary reason the Lawrence clinic could not have continued in its former capacity, even had I wished it to given our family circumstances at that time, in 2002.”
Neuhaus is still fighting to keep her license. That is not easy in a state that treats legal abortion doctors as if they were organized crime bosses.  Her legal troubles are not over yet.
The anti-abortion crusaders don’t care who they hurt.

Occupy Wichita plans for spring

From Wichita Peace and Freedom Party Examiner;

People in Wichita are already planning for Occupy Wichita spring action. A day long seminar was held at the Peace and Social Justice Center house, yesterday. It was put on mostly by Sunflower Community Action and OccupyWichita.
Member from all over Wichita, including many Hispanics were there. It was mostly a time to get together and see what people in this community have in common and what values they want in their community. The people looked for a common vision that they want to present as their goals in this movement.
Many Hispanics have talked of trying to become legal so they can work in the community they already live in. There were stories of families being separated. There were stories of harassment by the police.
“Hispanics don’t commit any more crime than other communities,” one woman said. “What makes us so illegal?”

Others talked about the wars and the government’s constant punishment aimed at the poor.
More meetings are being planned for the future over actions people will be taken and strategies that will be used.
There is no doubt that Occupy movements across the country will be planning actions in cities around the country. Weather the crowds are smaller or bigger, they will be more determined. There were some action planned For February 28. A woman on YouTube compared this to the Civil Rights Movement and said she was prepared to struggle for years to get some results.

Indian Governments gets military helicopters from Italy (Italian)

From PCm Italy;

Proletari comunisti -PCm Italy

ucciso due pescatori nelle acque internazionali contigue all'India.

Elicotteri venduti all'India

piazzare i suoi elicotteri S-92.
Napoli condotta dai pm Vincenzo Piscitelli, Henry John Woodcock e
Finmeccanica. Nell'ambito di quelle indagini sarebbero state richieste

ucciso due pescatori nelle acque internazionali contigue all'India.
business dell'industria bellica.

New voter ID law makes it hard for poor people and immigrants to vote

I realize there are many readers of this blog who don't believe we should bother with voting. But this article is written on the priciple of a country thad denies its citizens the right to vote.-សតិវ អតុ
From

Wichita voters rejected letting the City of Wichita give money to land developers to build a hotel in the downtown part of the city. This is also the third election with the new voter ID law put in motion by Secretary of State Kris Kobach. Kobach made voter fraud an issue in his election campaign.
There was very little evidence of voter fraud before the new law. Many people think this is just a way to make it harder for immigrants and poor people to vote. The law requires a photo ID.  The new ID requires either a driver’s license, a concealed-carry license, a U.S. passport, a public employee ID badge, a U.S. military ID, a student ID issued by a Kansas college and a government-issued public-assistance ID.
Members of the local Occupy Wichita and KanVotehad already tried to get a Kansas issued ID and for voting purposes and found that they needed a birth certificate that some immigrants might not have and some poor people may not be able to get at a reasonable cost.  They were unable to get voter IDs the day they went down to the Driver’s license office.

Feb. 15, a group protested this new law in Topeka. According to Otto’s War Room;
“A rally drawing as many as 800 people from across Kansas came to the Capital on Wednesday to protest discrimination aimed at immigrants and poor people.
Many carried signs that said “No hate in my state.” Others called for democracy and another common theme was “People not Greed.”
About 1/3 to ½ were Hispanic people and their families.
One of the issues many people focused on is the new voter fraud law designed to make it hard for many people to vote in Kansas. Most people feel this new law, requiring an ID and birth certificate to get one if a person doesn’t drive, is just a pole tax designed to make it harder for immigrants and poor people to vote. At the rallies many speakers brought up the fact there has been very little voter fraud found in Kansas”.
According to The Wichita Eagle there was frustration with the new system at this week’s election by a homeless man who had an ID he got from a homeless center. He told The Wichita Eagle it was enough for him to get registered but not enough to actually vote. He doesn’t have a birth certificate or a photo ID and yet he was born in Wichita.
This is a good example of what the new law was really meant to do. It is meant to keep poor, homeless people and new immigrants from voting. The Republican Party doesn’t want poor people or immigrants to vote since they have launched an all out political war on both groups. They want to discourage immigration and they want to balance the budget on the backs of the poor and working poor. They definitely don’t want those people voting.

Protect Our Kansas Workers not Wall Street

By: Terry Forsyth
As the Kansas Legislature works to "reform" the state's public pension system, there have been numerous figures thrown out to justify moving the system to a defined-contribution plan.  Governor Brownback has often stated  the current system cannot be sustained.  However, the facts show is that what can't be sustain is the very system the Governor and his allies in the Legislature want to thrust upon public workers and retirees.

Now, ultra-conservative front groups like the Kansas Policy Institute and Taxpayers United of America want us to believe that it's the employee's fault. Nobody’s blaming the victims of the financial collapse for the wreckage Wall Street caused, and why would they?  So why would anyone blame public workers for a shortfall that they didn’t cause?

By everyone's admission, the elephant in the room  is KPERS' current $8.3 billion unfunded actuarial liability (assets vs. what is needed to pay beneficiaries). But, the Governor's plan doesn't address the unfunded liability. In fact, it makes it worse.  Moving the system to a defined-contribution plan will cost the state an additional $10.9 billion compared to the current defined-benefit plan.  More importantly, nothing in the plan being considered by the Legislature will address the unfunded liability.  One cannot argue these statistics from the State's own actuary, Cavenaugh and McDonald.

Perhaps a little history lesson would be beneficial here.  According to the state Division of the Budget, the state, as an employer, has continually failed to fund its obligation to  the pension system (i.e. not paying its portion of the compact with pension members). While at the same time employees have fully paid their share into the system. Absent funding from the employer, you have the resulting unfunded liability. Now, instead of owning up to their responsibility, lawmakers want to shift more responsibility and burden to the employees with a plan design that will not even provide for an adequate retirement benefit.

So, what could possibly be driving so called "fiscal conservatives" to champion such a costly scheme.  Unfortunately, it is not the interests of the tens of thousands of Kansans who patrol our streets, fight the fires, stand a post in our prisons or teach our children.  No, it is a pure ideological desire to shift responsibility for funding the system to the employee and give Wall Street investment firms free reign over the system.

While reform is ultimately necessary in any endeavor, change for the sake of change can quickly make any endeavor a costly, inefficient mistake.  Lawmakers should strive to ensure that any changes made to KPERS truly protect workers and the state as a whole, not simply line the pockets of Wall Street on the backs of Main Street workers and taxpayers.
